♫ Strictly 'world's most watched' ♫

Quote:
“Strictly Come Dancing has spawned more international spin-offs than any other programme, according to new figures.

The BBC show's format has been sold to 38 countries, industry magazine Television Business International said.

The show is sold internationally as Dancing With The Stars to countries including Chile, India and Japan.”

This isn't actually true as Who Wants to be a Millionaire has been licenced to be made in 106 countires and territories.

I'm guessing they mean BBC show, but it's bad journalism all the same.

Maybe because WWTBAM is strictly (no pun intended) as a Quizshow, not an out and out entertainment/variety show?

"Strictly Come Dancing has spawned more international spin-offs than any other programme, according to new figures." is the top line quote.

No mention of format channel or anything. So it's just plain wrong.

Well I'm no expert but The Independent today is reporting TBI as having declared Strictly the world's most watched TV show.

Quote:
“But there was a brief time when the rest of the world seemed a little reticent to get out of its seat, don its diamante dinner jacket and rekindle its lost love of formal dancing. Since that fateful day, of course, the show hasn't put a foot wrong. Today, Strictly Come Dancing is not only the BBC's most successful export, a franchise worth £60m a year to licence-payers, but according to research by the industry magazine Television Business International (TBI), it is also the world's most-watched television programme, eclipsing US blockbusters such as Lost and Desperate Housewives.

Some 38 countries have signed up to the format. Its appeal transcends culture, creed and class. In a sequin-embossed post-industrial example of the old adage about selling coals to Newcastle, it is a hit in samba-mad Brazil as well as a runaway success in Argentina, the home of the tango, where it has a typically more risqué allure that would no doubt have that old ham Bruce Forsyth reaching for the smelling salts.”

How the world followed Strictly Come Dancing's lead

Yeah you're right. The focus of the articles changed after I posted yesterday from "most spin offs" to "most watched".

The most watched thing I assume is correct. Even though Millionaire went to more countries DWTSetc mostly top ten viewing in the countries it exists. So no complaints about that from me

ETA: Just read the article and there's still two errors in it! Blooming journalists!!
