Has Someone Previously Not Sung Because of Illness
cantos
10-11-2008
Can anyone settle an argument.

I believe there was an incident where someone went through to the next round due to sickness.

Was it on X Factor or another singing show.

Rik Waller got a bye Week 1 Pop Idol.
He wasnt well enough to perform Week 2 so Darius was given his place.

That could have been it.

But I thought Dermot said it had never happened before when he was announcing it on Saturday.

Not quite - it hadn't happened on X Factor but yes Rik Waller did get a bye following a similar incident in 2001/2. He dropped out after being unwell a second week and Darius (also of Popstars fame!) got in.

Never released that Britney cover though. Gutted.

Only time anything like this has happened in Strictly was with Kate Garraway. She didn't dance in Week1 last year, but as it was the mens week and she wasn't due to be scored it didn't matter (she only missed a group dance)

Although she was still not 100% fit she danced in show 2.

Jimmy Tarbuck withdrew due to health reasons and Kelly Brook due to personal reasons but nobody has ever been given a bye, missed a weeks dancing and then returned.

Its happened in other shows but not X factor

Fame Academy 1 - Naomi couldn't sing for more than 1 week and was replaced by David Sneddon (who went on to win it - despite losing out to Sinead (eventual runner up) in the sing off for the last "normal place in the Academy!)

Pop Idol 1- Rik Waller couldn't sing in week 1 and was still too ill to sing in week 2 so was replaced by Darius who went on to finish 3rd.

Dancing on Ice 1 - David Seaman's partner Pam had an accident in the rehearsal on the day of the show and the other contestants agreed to let them have a bye that week, he had a temporary partner the next week before going out in the semi final (partnering Pam again).

Dancing with the Stars 7(US) - Cody Linley's partner Julianne Hough needed emergency surgery so he was paired up with one of the evicted pro dancers while she recovered (Julianne should be back next week if Cody is still in!)

With both the singing shows though - it was a case of they were allowed a bye for one week, but had to leave if they couldn't do a second.

Don't forget - this time the judges were already kind to Laura by letting her go through to boot camp despite croaking her way through her audition.

Steve had his voice back and was ok to sing by Saturday night - Diana was wanting to sing but hours before was told not to by a specialist as she still didn't have her voice back fully, if she had off sung she would have caused more damage

I remember that. It seams to me they want to make the rules up as they go by to save Diana. But I bet if it was Daniel they would have kick him out.

Anyway I dont think they did Diana any favors as a few people I know have now turned their back on the show because if the unfairness of it all and are saying they are going to vote agaisnt the shows fav.

IMO at the end of the day the show should have just done a showcase show and stopped the vote untill Diana could come back this week. Then restart with the format but have a bottom 3 sing off with 2 off them going this week. As I think they have done Diana some bad with how they went about it.

Steve only have 50% of his voice. Diana also had some of her voice as we saw when she was at the Doctors.

So they was in the same postion.

This is all down to X factor and them playing the game how they want. Which is not doing Diana any good as now some people are going against her. They should have just done the show as I said in the post above. That way its is a fair game alround and noone would get any back lash from it.

Mr C said THAT very morning Steve couldn't sing a note.

With Diana- there was a possibility (they tell us) she could sing up til 2 hours before the show... so it can't have been that bad.

Yeah, a singer had to leave due to measles. I think that was it anyway.

Well it looks like X factor didnt do Diana any favors as many people I know are now piss at the blantat manipulation.

(And yes Fan I know Diana could help it and this is not about her its about X factor management)

They could have sorted this out in a very easy way, By having last week as a X factor show case without the votes, Then returned to the format this week when Diana is back and have a sing off with the bottom 3 and the 2 leaving the show.

But no they wanted to make money and by doing that A few if not many people will go against Diana imo as a two finger salute to the show. Becuase at the end of the day the GBP dont like to be take as fools by the money men.

That was more true in the early days of X Factor, they liked to play down similarities in light of Simon Fuller's court case.

With Leona Lewis appearing on American Idol, and clips of Pop Idol being used to introduce Will Young on C Factor, this doesn't really seem to be the case so much any more.

Lets cahnge the question: Has anyone never sung beacuse of ilness in 'The X Factor before?

Lets remember talent competitions have moved on and standards are higher than Pop idol and fame academy.
