He didn't want Rhydian in the final when the live shows first started but then Rhydian performed week after week. No he didn't win but Simon certainly went from considering him to be the joke act to one of the best.

Alex has been getting better week by week and I think he's changed his tune on her. Great singers always shine through regardless of the public vote.

Do we know this? Isn't that just who has been receiving most votes so far and as such typical of the early stages of these reality shows?

If Alexandra manages to demonstrate somehow that she is a viable recording artist with lots of public interest behind her, she'll be fine.

For some strange reason he is dishing out standing ovations and high praise to her at a peculiar rate. Ever since "Candyman", he's been loving her performances and thinking less of Laura.

He probably doesn't need to do much to get rid of her as she isn't a favourite. They want her to last a while, I think, but she isn't a real winner. They are just building the illusion that she is so as people don't start thinking Diana has it in the bag. Especially with Laura gone.

Hmmm, I can hear it now...

"I dont know whats happened to you Alexandra...your not the person we saw in the auditions...."

"You COULD be in trouble tonight"

"Look, clearly Not your BEST performance..."

Interlude of feverish biro chewing followed by a sarky comment about her hair / dress or backing dancers.

OR, he could use the famous X-Factor Laura-esque, reverse phsycology and get every judge to tell her how awesome she is, making voters feel they have no need to pick up the phone and VOILA, she is in the bottom two. Even against Daniel, she would be gone as Louis could use his fist in mouth, fake tears routine "I cant vote you out after a performance like that" when he crooned yet another ballad to his wife.

If he wants Diana to win he will have to make sure Alex does not make the final cos she will definately outsing Diana and could even win it.

Do you really think Diana has it in the bag though? I'm certain Diana's exit will be the final 'shock' of the series, leaving just before the final, or being in second place to Eoghan.

I think it's come to the point now where everyone is so utterly confident she's going to win that we may well see an upset prior to the final. I think Alex is the dark horse of this contest.

He will try soon, but hopefully he wont succeed, as she wont do a bad performance.

I don't think anyone voting for Diana just now is expecting her to belt out songs better than Alexandra. She isn't going to try and belt out a song any week but people have seen numerous Alexandra's and far better versions of it as well.

He will try soon, but hopefully he wont succeed, as she wont do a bad performance.
Unfortunately, she shows very little chance of actually doing a particularly good performance. He's over egging the pudding the past few weeks on what have been decent but steadily bland performances. For whatever reason, this appears to have been to replace Laura as a contender. Ironically, Laura briefly replaced Alexandra as a contender in the first 2 weeks.

Being a pessimist, I always worry that Diana might go out. But I am at least fairly confident that they will save her in any judges vote until the top 5.

There certainly won't be any "lazy voters" this weekend at least. The furore with Laura has made certain of that and no doubt there will be a rallying call next week to make sure you vote.

Simon gave Rhydian fantastic comments throughout - the only negative one was when he did the camp 'Go West'.

He liked Rhydian from the first show when he did the Meatloaf song.

Simon obviously wants Eoghan to win- but I suspect he's be quite happy if JLS won- because he can set them up as a more credible alternative to Westlife

Which wont be too difficult bearing in mind Westlife are a Karaoke band at best

I don't think Simon wants Eoghan to win, he as stated that Diana is his fav and he did that while Austin was still in

Perhaps he'll use the put down that he said to Will Young and tell her that she is pretty average like Will Young is.

It won't be long.

She has a nice voice.

But nice doesn't really sell records does it, she's fine as a filler act for the live shows, but when it gets down to the nitty gritty, she'll be gone.

I give her 3 weeks now, after Daniel and Rachel go.

Filler voice, seriously, what are you on?

Out of the eight left, there are 4 which he can sell to the public, 2 of which 'vould' be global.

Eggnog - for the Gareth Gates-cutesy-make a quick buck factor then let him lose at 18 to spend the rest of his life doing 'I'm a celbrity'

JLS - Although I don't like them, there is a market for a new boyband and an alternative to the recent 'man-bands' (even Westlife are man-band recently)

Both of the above are UK only

Alexandra - He's already got a British Whitney/Maria in Leona, but he hasn't got a British Beyonce/Xtina type. Now that, he can market both in the UK & abroad. Remember, America might be full of them, but there not full of British versions of them.

Diana - Her style is all the rage these days so he know he can sell her, both here and in the US. His only thought might be that her style may go out of fashion.

So, he probably wants a Diana/Alexandra/Eggnog final.

What we don't know is what will happen if Rachel actually does pull something out of the bag (no, not Grandma's purse that she nicked).

She'll be bottom 2 for sure this week and potentially eliminated. She'll be up against Rachel so Louis' vote is crucial as Simon will definetely vote to save Rachel.

Do you really think so?

Simon gave an odd look when the camera panned to him after Rachels name was announced as safe on Saturday

I wouldn't be too sure that she'll be up against Rachel (if Alex is indeed in the bottom 2).

They'll give Rachel a Winehouse track this week so that could help her....and if they really want Rachel to stay they will put her on last (although by rights that position should be Ruth's if they go by the fairest running order).

Daniel and JLS should be the first two acts next week with Alex 3rd....so I wouldn't be surprised if it was Alex vs Daniel (with a chance of Alex vs Ruth ...if Ruth is given the shaft and put on 4th).

I think Rachel may be safe if she sings a Winehouse song....talk about one trick pony the only time I've ever liked her voice is when she does an Amy...

Oh please don't talk about Alexandra being bottom 2, I'm just dreading the week it eventually happens

I think if Rachel gets a Winehouse track she'll be safe again and if Daniel does something epic like "Angels" then so could he - if that happens I daren't guess who the bottom 2 will be.

Very worried about this week. Alexandra needs brilliant judges comments and a great song to keep getting the votes because unfortunately this year more than ever it is NOT a talent contest.

To all those people who keep saying Alex has only got a decent nice voice, basically your wrong! Each week she has got better and better, Simon Cowell would tell you that, she is the only person there that has proved she can not only sing but she can dance and perfrom at the same time.

So in answer to the inital question, Simon won't try and get rid of Alex has he knows she is the best vocalist left and has by far the most potential to sell records.

And to the person that commented on Alex being the British equivalent to Beyonce/Xtina, totally spot on!

If Simon loves Alex why hasn't he used the word final with her where he has with Diana and Jls
