Hiya guys,
We recently lost our cavalier and have decided to get a cocker spaniel pup preferbally in chocolate as we can not be without a dog and neither can our 4 yr old collie.
We dont want to go through the pain of having another cavalier in case he or she has the same disease as Lucy did, and I have been looking everywhere on the net for any breeders near Leeds or in Yorkshire that breed cocker spaniels.
If any of you could help it will be really appreciated

cocker spaniels do not come in chocolate so i would suggest more breed research first and whether you want an american cocker or english cocker for a start before lookijng into a breeder, and remember these are totally different animals to a cavvie all spaniels like to work

Urm yes they do I've seen plenty of chocolate cocker spaniel pups they are just more popular down south rather than in Yorkshire where I live.
We have done lots of research into the cocker spaniel and have not just woke up one day and decided to go get one, it is something we have put a lot of thought into.
Working cocker spaniels make better pets than the show cocker spaniels and thats what we are wanting. The americans we dont want as they are specially breeded to be what they say "Perfect" which is exactly what happend to our cavalier that was born with SM.

Its worth having a list ready of things that you will need to know, such as if they have carried out the relevant tests prior to breeding, such as hips, eyes etc - and also questions about the parentage. Also making sure that you will be able to see both parents etc.

Yes I was going to suggest champdogs. I don't like their forums but they have a list of breeders of all the breeds and also any puppies that have been born recently. That is where I found the breeder of my Cavalier.

Do you want a working cocker spaniel or a show cocker spaniel? Both cockers, but very different, both in looks and exercise needs. You can get solid liver/chocolate show cockers, but they are more popular in the working lines.

I wouldn't ever recommend looking on the net for a puppy. You might get lucky, but most decent breeders don't need to advertise, as they will have waiting lists. I would recommend your local cocker spaniel breed club - details here: http://www.thecockerspanielclub.co.uk/breedclubs.htm

Make sure that any bitches and sires have had the relevant health tests done and been passed clear (PRA and FN).
