If Laura is so good, then why was she in the bottom two and then eliminated from the show?

To answer your question then..
I'd say it's because Dannii chose two wrong songs for Ruth. She picks them herself, and she knows how she likes to sing them. |

In other words
Ruth can only bring out a 'performance' when she is not singing a 'theme' It's the same for anyone. The songs are probably more important than the singing. Laura is a very good singer. She gets given a shit song and ends up in the bottom two. Look at previous X Factor winners and look at the general quality of their songs over the course of their respective series. It's the same for anyone, it's the 'themes' as you call them which get the votes. You could give a very average singer 'My Way' but the song alone can be enough to generate the votes all by itself. |

Dionne didn't get the votes she deserved either, Brenda deserved better as did Beverley and Niki. Public dont seem to like strong women.

Because she is ok when she is just singing as part of the main competition, when she's in the bottom 2 she seems 2 bring it, alot of people on here have said that both of her bottom 2 perfromances were the best of the series so far, i dont quite agree 2 that extent but they are far better than anything else she has done.

And yeah if Laura is so good why was she in the bottom 2 I wish it was as black and white as that but the fact is that it isn't. Especially when people are getting through because of sob stories |

Being bottom two is rarely a reflection of how good people actually are but of how popular they are that particular week which can be because of anything from the song they sing, what they wear, what the judges say, when they sang, which clip they choose to show in the recap, how they reacted to the judges comments, newspaper coverage, etc, etc.

Being in the bottom twice does not reflect talent but popularity.
Look at Laura and Austin. Great singers but they still ended up in the bottom and got sent packing. Plus thier songs choices were naff. I agree with the poster, song choices do play an enormous part in the voting. Sad but true. I'm not knocking the likes of Diana, JLS and Alex (who I beleive are great) but there is a strong possibilty that they could have ended up in the bottom if they recieved songs/slots like Ruth did. Flipping the coin though, there is a strong possibilty that Ruth could have avoided the bottom two if she recieved more memorable songs like thiers. It's a double edged sword. |

She ended up in the bottom 2 because...
a) Outside this forum she has little appeal to the GPB b) Simon Cowell's lust for her is probably off putting c) On both occasions she was in the sing-off she was on the first three acts on d) Other peaple in the competition have more connection with the audience |

Ruth is good, but being good doesn't mean acts can't be eliminated. The public have to like them enough.

i'm getting a bit sick of bitter laura fans hoping to keep their favourite in the show, despite her not being popular enough to get enough votes to keep her in. she didn't get enough votes. her performance wasn't the best in the sing-offs. it's that simple. |

I do think some people vote regionally also and this has been mentioned by the judges before so it can't just be a myth.
Ruth doesn't have the regional base that the others have. I'm not saying this is the only reason, but it may be one of the reasons she has been in the bottom two twice. There are contestants in the comp that deserve to go IMO but they have people voting for them for one reason or another. I mean, c'mon....why is Daniel still there?? It's not for his talent is it.... |

Notice that diana has NEVER been at the start, only mid- end. |
