At the risk of going off thread and being beaten up with a big stick as a result, I'd say that Alesha's effect on Matt was similar to that of a woman wearing a stunning piece of clothing which highlights the beauty that is already there! He became more vivid as their partnership progressed.

At the moment he looks somewhat drawn and anxious. Christine is so hyper, and it's how she makes me feel, too.

I don't sense the same warmness I perceived when I saw the waltz and the mambo (oh, sorry, Samba!). Even the Paso week we see that they have 'chemistry'. But lately (the past two weeks or so) I saw the sparkle dimming in John's eyes. He had a somewhat constipated expression when he execute his dance routine. It looked strained to me.

Just to play devil's advocate, do you think part of Kristina could be thinking: Well, John's popularity is good for my publicity too! People will notice not just him, but me as well, a good way of raising *my* profile in England.

Maybe she feels this way a tad. But I do think Kristina, who came from a humble background, will cherish the friendship she made with John...”

I don't doubt for a minute that Kristina is relishing every extra week that she stays in SCD for all the reasons you've given.

Other than that, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Irrespective of anybody's feelings about John, I think you could be waiting a long time to be wowed by all (or possibly any) of the dances. I haven't really seen any wow dance yet, and can't see it happening with any of the couples this year, unlike past years where there were always possibilities, proved by Mark/Karen, Alesha/Matt amongst others. There will be good dances but nothing special, which is another reason why I think John has picked up more support than he might have done had the likes of Alesha etc been around to pick up the floating votes.

I thought Austin's jive, though not technically perfect (those arms!), have a wow factor to it. The number of views so far (> 70,000, among the highest of SCD views this year, slightly more than Alesha's cha cha, which was posted by bbc a year ago) is a testament to my statement.

Thought it was interesting that Alesha just said on Loose Women that she has voted for John.

Tess says: "He may not be the best dancer but he's adorable and people power is keeping him in the show. At the end of the day, it's not BBC Sport - it's an entertainment show.

"Dancing talent will eventually prevail in the competition, but for now people enjoy watching John dance. He has the feelgood factor and, with the recession, we could all do with a bit of that."

I'm surprised actually, after all the work she put in last year. I wonder how she'd feel if Matthew and Christine go out because people were voting for John.

She felt embarrassed saying it though cuz the ladies didn't agree (Apart from the Nolan) or the audience so she followed it up by saying that she also votes for Lisa, whether that was the truth or just she didn't like the reaction she got for voting for John who knows.

Wonder what Alesha would have thought if "2 left feet" had been in the same contest she was in, and she was voted into the dance off but Jolly John (Oooooooh he's so cuddly)
went through to next round.

Exactly, this 'let's vote for the underdog' madness is such a British disease, so debilitating that it's worse than cancer!

Perhaps Alesha is eying for the Christmas trophy, and doesn't want Matthew to be paired with Christine?

Cynical, I know. I surprise myself because I actually like (or liked?) Alesha...

I'll accept that that one was the closest, but the total views may be because there haven't been any other dances that many people want to watch more than once. Do you think the quality of the best dances in the first few weeks is better than the last couple of years? Not sure I do

Alesha WAS voted into the dance-off, after another dancer sat on the steps, was marked 8 by Len, and was then phone voted to safety.

I don't think the quality is better, granted.

But I do think there are wow dances this year too. Maybe not as much as last year's Strictly, but not a complete dud either.

I also think this year the judges are more cautious about the scores. Even though last year was very entertaining, the flying tens came so close to a farce it almost made me switch to the Z-Factor. But after a few minutes of hearing a Leon guy singing off-tune and a bleached campy (apparently Welsh) man singing opera-inspired songs, I quickly returned to SCD holding my head down in shame!

Note: Austin's jive is only below Gethin's Waltz and Alesha's Jive in terms of viewing figures.

And so she's doing this now (i.e. voting for John and not Matthew) as a punishment to the judges? Or to Matthew Cutler?

That would be the dancer who didn't understand why John sat on the steps last week.

For those interested, there are many Political debate shows on TV.
For others looking to see personality or to watch a good / bad argument, I could recommend Big Brother.

I personally watch the show to be entertained, primarily by the dancing and also the music.

I have nothing against John, and I am sure he is a great guy and good at what he does, i.e. journalism. However, he cannot dance and therefore should now exit gracefully. He has had 8 weeks plus to improve, which perhaps he may have personally achieved, but his current dancing level leaves him at the bottom of the SCD list.

Many people mention that, the public vote for him, because they want to see him dance again. This intrigues me, because he cannot dance.

I see many posts where people say, I have not been watching or never watched SCD, but (having read some newspaper article), will certainly be voting for John now.
Then we have the underdog vote and the judge revenge vote and so on......or lets see if we can get John to the final........Mostly unrelated to his dancing ability.

IMHO, this is a DANCING entertainment show, not just an entertainment show.

Each to their own....”

That's why he's still there!

Thanks for your thoughts. Evidently not shared by the voting public though.

Why do so many on here think that their opinion is far more important than that of those who pick up the phones?

Arrogant pomposity IMHO.

Did anyone else notice other peoples faces when John was talking to Tess. Some of them were glum. They clearly thought John was awful.
I saw smiles from Jodie, Ian and Erin tho and a strange giggle from Camilla but I don't think there much support for John back stage.

I for one don't think my opinion is far more important than others. You shouldn't make such a sweeping statement.
