My collie Jack has been scratching so I took him to the veterinary surgeon today.

Turns out he has got fleas.

The vet gave him an injection to try and prevent the scratching and also applied "Frontline Spot On Combo".

So, fingers crossed the fleas will have got the messege.

I would appreciate your thoughts/advice.

Yes - Frontline Spot On as prescribed on the packet as a preventative measure although I use it less in the winter than in the summer.

Frontline spot on combo is fab. We have it for our cat. It kills any fleas that land on him within 48 hours AND it it also interferes with their life cycle so new ones can't hatch, so you don't get a house infestation.
I would recommend though that you treat your house with some kind of spray as well, 'coz those fleas wont be affected until they jump onto your dog - and they may choose you instead !

By the way, I get my Frontline from Ebay (it comes from Hong Kong) and it is much cheaper. You can also buy it from pet shops here too whereas previously it could only by bought from the vet.

LQS, you can get Frontline here, I've used this company a few times for my two cats and never had any complaints.

Yes I got it for my cats and my dog from Ebay. It's a guy called 'Cliff', that's all I can remember about him and can't look up Ebay at the moment as I'm at worked and it's blocked.

I had a problem with the first batch which was a pack of six - two of them were broken and the contents had leaked but he refunded me no questions asked. Since then I've had no problems at all.

LQS if you're still reading, I can't find this guy on Ebay at the moment but have found this link from an email I'd saved from him.

You have to make a few allowances for his English, bless him!

Especially in warm places... Airing cubboard, under radiator that sort of places.

Also worm your dog regularly with Drontal. Its all part of the flea cycle.

Frontline does NOT work. I've used Stronghold on my dog and cat for the last 4 years and not one flea. 3 months ago when I went to the vets they were out of Stronghold so we got Frontline. Now both cat and dog have had fleas. The veterinary nurse told me loads of people had found the same thing. We will never use Frontline again.
