Anybody fancy a Big Brother style vote as a solution
DerChef

Der Chefs suggests

i.e you vote for who you want OUT and only vote for the best dancer in the final

Sounds logical to me especially as the BEEB dont publish who has the top support of the public anyway

Ohh Yeah

Sorry Chef but a big no to that idea.

Negative votes encourage negative campaigning and negative feelings. As this is a family show, everything needs to be kept positive (except occasionally this forum )

Why should the goal posts be moved just because the voting hasn't panned out the way the judges and certain viewers wanted?

Der Chef says

It already has been between series to curb the GBP's wanton voting wickedness

Ohh Yeah

I would say 'why should the goal posts be moved 'anymore' ... the dance off was an attempt to let the judges get their own way - and look where that got 'em

No from me too to negative voting.

And it backfired.

No, all the good, apparently 'smug' dancers would get voted off and John would still be in. There'd be a battle of Tom and Austin fans trying to vote the other off, 'Get Lisa out' campaigns, etc. It would be horrible. At least with BB they don't know what's being said outside.

They don't want to change the voting system. They are loving the drama. What else could they put in the papers about this year's SCD if they didn't have John? More on Tom's wedding? Are Brendan and Lisa fighting/falling in love? If John had gone out week one, the judges would be 'appalled' with someone else, probably Jodie.

I don't think we need a 'solution'.

It's a manipulative medium. Voters have their buttons pushed...and then push their phone buttons accordingly. I'm comfortable with that even if I question their naivety.

It's easy for me to say that I would watch the show without the pantomime and soap opera....and I genuinely believe it....but I doubt that it would get anything like the 8m-10m viewers if it was a 'proper' contest.

I've been reading your posts, and it seems clear to me...

you're a conspiracy theorist, innit.

I think that if by some ludicrous mischance I was cast for an RTV show and actually allowed to express my views on RTV, it's quite possible I would be portrayed as a conspiracy theorist.

In that hypothetical case, I expect quite a lot of viewers would take the story producer's word for it.

Nope, the system is fine, I may not like John being there anymore, but he's a perfect right to remain whilst he has enough votes to keep him in.

5 Points

1. You have made this comment before and I HAVE ALREADY IGNORED IT

2. Secondly I would love you to enlighten us to what this mental "picture" is

3. I have NEVER directly criticised another poster on here and I dont take any either

4. I will stop doing it when this forum has facilities to allow you to post with a personalised signature

5. I will do it for you just this once

You are right there. We are a very gulliable lot. It is as if 'If we see in the the media, then it MUST be true' kind of mentality.

Have studied one year in Communications Studies (not my major) in the University and I got to see how manipulative the media could really be. They are NOT hypothetical principles, but REAL examples!

We are but sheep, we really are! *sigh*

btw, I am AGAINST the idea of a negative vote. Suitable for trashy reality shows like BB, but for a all-family Saturday evening fun show, it's too, well, negative!

Totally against negative voting too.
(Anyway it's not a very "BBC thing" and I doubt whether many of the celebs or pros would be happy to take part under those circumstances.)

The show's format is designed to create these moments of drama....."a John type" situation happens every year and in the end one of the best dancers win. It's predicable fuss for the sake of it imo ....

I also don't like negative voting.

A poor dancer has never won SCD. I really don't believe John will win this year.

The current format works fine. There is no need to change it.

My one vice in my life is that I love BB.....but having watched BB from day one I can say with some certainty that a vote to evict is not a good idea.....In fact the majority of DS members who contribute to the BB forum would like to change the eviction vote, to a vote to save......as already discussed negative voting brings out the worst in the public......and trust me you will loose some of the best Dancers first.

Nah, it would have been Heather. "She's not improving/ her best dance was week one/she's staying in over others who have shown a marked improvement" - I can hear them now. Sound familiar?
