Why are there app. threads already?
Everyone ends up hating the one they thought they'd like (Biggins - tho' I liked him)
and loving the one they thought they'd hate. (David Gest).”

yeah good point, gest was a clear example of jumping the gun, everyone was hating on him, but he turned out to be the big character from the show.

and the appreciation threads? they're just there so that people can say " I was there first, i'm the biggest fan, i win! I win!" when there's nothing to appreciate yet, as the show hasn't even started.

Not a bad list...except for-

Brian Paddick
Carly Zucker
Nicola McLean

People voted out in the first round of the X Factor are bigger celebs than this lot.

There must be hundreds of better known, large breasted women...who they could have got for very little money....

...and I don't see the point of putting Brian Paddick in instead of Timmy Mallett.

Got to laugh at the desperation at some of these choices.

Some fitness instructor who just happens to be engaged to a footballer? And the obligatory Page 3 model??!

They've really pulled out all the stops this year. Georgina Baillie must have been too expensive though......

It's pretty crap really, and they are lucky to put in Martina of all people! As the OP suggested, surely this is above all of this? Despite her, it still doesn't make this year's lot that excited, does it.

I can't believe that people haven't heard of Martina. She's one of the most famous and successful sportspersons of all time.

Is there something in particular which younger celebrities do which makes them better?

From what I've seen in these celebrity reality shows it's generally the older contestants who provide better value for money.
It's often the case that it's the older celebs who are more fiery, more argumentative, more opinionated, more anti-authoritarian, and more rebellious and fiery then their younger counterparts.
Not always, but often they tend to be.
I don't know why, but it's often the older celebs who project more of their personality and quite often it's the younger celebs who are often more conservative, more reserved, too careful, too conformist, and even ironically too 'old' and square.

Sometimes it's much better to watch an older celebrity who is a cantankerous old git who's set in their ways, who has more life experience, and who doesn't care so much so more freely speaks their mind, rather than watching a younger celebrity with an eye on their future media career who is less experienced and is too careful to preserve a type of image they want to project to viewers who they are overly careful to try not to offend.”

You're right, of course .....

I don't understand why people would not watch because of the line-up.

Surely you're better to watch at least the first couple of episodes to see if you actually like the people. Its not as if we were really expecting anything above c-list celebs anyway

Kilroy: Odious man, will probably show true colours.

Martina Navratilova: Why? Why!? She is above this...

Joe Swash: My tip for the final. Should be standard fare.

Simon Webbe: Winner? Will probaly do little of any importance...

Nicola McLean: Never heard of her...

George Takei: My early fav. He could be very entertaining.

Dani Behr: Bland but pleasant.

What do you all think?”

OMG George Takei, as in Sulu from Star Trek. My hubby may even watch it this year! hE'S A REALLY GOOD LAUGH!

Hopefully he wil be as delightfully crazy as Janice Dickinson!

WHY WHY WHY is Martina there!? She's literally a living legend and this is a platform for D-listers got get back into the limelight!

Martina to win anyhow.

I love George Takei (met him years ago and he was a real sweetie!) and Martina is a real legend! Kilroy and Rantzen are pretty much household names and should be fun to watch. Dani Behr is ok and I've heard of Simon Webbe but never really paid him any attention. Will be interesting to see all of the above though. I don't have a clue who the other 4 are, so I have no opinion of them. From reading the forum I gather some of them aren't even celebrities, so what they're doing on the show I've no idea! Lol.

But Yay for George Takei - can't wait to see how he copes in the jungle.

I know! How can people have heard of Carly whatsername and not heard of a legend like her? I wonder how she'll get on with Esther Rantzen? I can see a clash of personalities there.

I met George's husband last time they were over. really lovely guy too.

This is a surprisingly strong line-up celebrity-wise. Didn't know who Carly and Nichola were but it can't be easy to get well known glamourous girls to go into the jungle and since there main role is to look good in a bikini it doesn't much matter that they're not famous. Only vaguely heard of Brian Paddick around the London mayoral election in which he was obviously an also ran much the same as he's likely to be in IACGMOOH.

George Takei, Martina Navratilova and Esther Rantzen are surprisingly big names that you would think wouldn't need to lower themselves to the humiliation the show is known for. The rest of them will just want the appearance fee and/or to boost their profile. Where has Dani Behr been for the last few years? Can't say that I've missed her, never liked her for some reason.

Hi all,

First time I've posted on this forum

At first glance, I thought I only knew a few celebs...however, once I looked up the names the only ones I realised hadn't come across before were the three glamour girls. (Do we really need that many? :yawn And as someone else said, we need more middle people, 30 somethings.

Martina, I suspect, is there for the experience, the sheer hell of it. Surely she has absolutely no other reason on earth to be there?!

I can see her being another Carol Thatcher. Go Martina. I already want her to win...

Addendum: Or Esther She's a game old bird...

Well I never, a few actual celebs on there. George is a legend for all the Trek fans (and Heroes fans , Esther is part of the fabric of TV, Martina is a sporting legend, Kilroy is a legendary opinionated tw*t.

Brian Paddick I've heard of but couldn't give two hoots about.

Dani Behr I haven't seen on TV for about ten years and she was a useless presenter when she was on TV anyway.

The others I've never heard of. Pointless WAG, a pair of tits, a soap actor and an ex-boyband member. Whoop de doo.

Go George

Quite an impressive line up for these type of shows.

I had heard of all of them bar Nicola Mclean...

Majorly surprised Martina is in the line up.. she obviously is not in need of the money of exposure. Looking forward to seeing how she does though. Kilroy-Silk should be good value as well.
