Well my 37" Sharps Aquos developed a picture fault so i claimed under the D & G extended warranty(phew).TV repaiman took the tv away last tuesday and I rang them up today to find out what was happening?Bear in mind the tv cost £1000 new(march 07).They said it would cost just short of £3000 to fixWTF!!.
Now I have to get in touch with product replacement office,I wonder what they are going to offer me?

When my CRT tube failed many years ago the replacement cost the insurance company more than I paid for the TV, I assume simple supply and demand dictates that after a point when you can simply pick a part of a production line the costs rocket.

An insurance policy would normally replace like for like and I expect the D&G specifies a retail product (not refurb) so you may be offered a choice of models at similar spec or a cash amount linked to current market prices.

Thanks for the reply Jarrak,I would like to get the Sony-KDL-40V4000 even if I have to put a bit extra too.
Looks like a good tv and with decent reviews

Surely it is covered by your warranty? Otherwise what is the point of your post?

It probably requires a new LCD panel - Sharp ones (like their CRT's) make the job considerably more than the original set.

Presumably a replacement set of a similar spec (not cost, as they have dropped in price) - be aware though that (just like your car insurance) writing the set off like this cancels the insurance policy.

Many thanks Nigel for your trusted words,as for RobAnt the reason for the post is too show that a crazy f***ed up world we live in can charge £3000 to repair a £1000 TV and Damien Hirst has been nowhere near it
