Question for those that have a Creative Zen

Hey all.

I have a Creative Zen Vision M. Have had it for about 3 years now, and it is still going just fine. However, I am a little concerned about what I will do when one day it does die.

I watch a lot of downloaded Divx/Xvid files on it, so my next player would have to be able to play those filetypes, ideally without conversion.

So my question to those that have one of the new Zens is do you have to convert downloaded shows to view on the Zen?

Due to the volume of stuff I watch, I cannot be bothered with converting it all.

Hi there,

I have a Zen W 60gb & it playsback most avi files without any problems. However if you use the bundled creative software then you can only use certain resolution movies. This can be over ridden by just installing the drivers & using explorer to copy the files to the right folder.

thanks for the reply, but I am asking about the newer, smaller ones, the Creative Zens. I heard that you had to transcode films and tv shows to a certain resolution?

The Zen W is the same as the newer Zen range but has a widescreen. You only have to adjust the resolution if using the creative software.

The creative zen software converts all files to WMV for viewing so don't do that. The Creative Zen can play DivX/XviD files but there is a maximum resolution of either 640x480 or 320x240 (I can't remember which).

Don't forget the small screen size means its primary purpose is still music not tv/videos. A large screen PVP such as Archos 7 series would be better suited to this.

Cool thanks for the answer.

I know an Archos/Cowon player would be better for purely video, but I like to have a small player for music, that can do video as well, just for watching on the tube.
