Hi there, I'm in the market for an M2 memory card and spotted a good sandisk 8GB memory card for £20 on amazon. It states on there that it is compatible with my phone (W760i), however sony states my phone is only capable of 4GB. I've since heard theres a way to change this and increase the memory, is anyone aware of what this is?

Thanks.

so you should be okay, cubby

it may be that Sony says 4gb, only because that was the largest capacity available at time of writing.

(eg when the k800i came out 2 years ago, Sony said the maximum for that was 2gb, which is not actually true, but was true at the time only because 2gb was the largest card available then.)

hello again cubby

here's another W760i review that states under 'Specifications' that it can take up to 8gb

Specifications of Sony Ericsson W760i

Memory: 38 Mb of user memory
Memory Stick Micro (M2) slot, up to 8 Gb
so i am sure that must be correct... however i take no responsibility if they are wrong!

if you do get it, please post back to let us know if it was indeed okay

but that list is patently incorrect. i have a K800 with a 4gb card recognised in it... but according to SE there, it's only compatible up to 2gb.

hmm.....i notice SE's footnote re the p990 that "larger Memory Stick units are likely to function, but no formal tests have been conducted by Sony Ericsson."

i am wondering if likewise their stated compatibility for other phones is only for the memory limit that they have formally tested and can guarantee - even if larger ones are "likely to function"
