My 9 or 10 week old kitten is absolutely crazy. He's so clingy. He just won't leave me alone. If I'm downstairs he just won't get off me. It's cute but I don't want to reinforce his behavior. He loves sucking on my clothes, rubs himself all over me and no matter how many times I put him down he'll just get back on, crying and nudging me. I must have put him down on the floor 15 times in the past 10 minutes as I'm trying to work on the laptop but the second he touches the floor he jumps straight back on. Is this normal?

I think I'm going to do an experiment now to see how many times he jumps back on. lol

edit: This time I only did it four times before he ran off and sat on TOP of one of the older cats.

You are his new "Mummy" and he is just treating you as such?

I assume you haven't had him that long?

He may be adapting to the change, needing a lot of love and reassurance? Personally I'd give him all the time in the world - cats are pretty independant and he'll find his way soone enough....

Believe me it wont be long before he'll be biting your fingers off

I've had him for about 4 weeks. His mum was getting really pissed off with the kittens and hurting them so they had to be taken away so I ended up taking him on.

He's settled in really well, my other cats love him and he terrorizes them when I'm not here but if I'm here he clings like mad.

He does get an awful lot of love from me, my partner and my house mate but he's just so clingy to me I wondered if maybe something was wrong.

My cats are around 15 years old and still act like this. Well, two of them do anyway. They are only happy when they are either snuggled up together, or snuggled up with us. Most evenings we can be found with a cat curled on our laps.

If he is 9-10 weeks and you've had him for a month then potentially he was taken away from his mother (albeit for his own safety) at 5 weeks, which is just too early!!! Maybe that explains his clingy-ness. Not only are you his Mummy but you are also his hero for rescuing him

He's obviously taken a shine to you and that's good - means he trusts you and is happy! He'll grow out of being so clingy when he gets a bit older.

My little one followed my BF everywhere to begin with (even to the loo!!) and if he wasn't paying her attention she would be climbing up his jeans, nudging him, meowing at him. She's calmed down a lot now - although she is still a very affectionate kitty!!

From what I am aware of, it sounds like your kitty was separated from its mother too early. I think that explains the sucking clothes thing. It is a kind of suckling behaviour.

He just thinks you are Mum

Just enjoy him, one of my kittens died earlier in the year, he was the one who loved to suckle on my ear! and I miss him terribly.

I am sure as he grows up he will develop his independence - My other cat (Charlie's brother) is very affectionate and loves lots of love and fuss, but he is also his own man now, and comes and goes as he pleases

One of my boys is very clingy.

I am his third human, his first kept him, and the rest of his litter in a shed. His second human became ill, and he was left in a twelfth floor flat, with just someone coming in to feed him once a day.

Now, however, he has freedom to come and go as he pleases, although he prefers to be inside. He sleeps wrapped around my neck, and he always comes to greet me when I pull up in the car outside. I can't even take my seatbelt off until he has jumped in and had a cuddle.

One of my little girls also likes to be close to me, but then she also had a bad start in life. A neighbour at an old address found her dumped in his garden. When I went to see her, she went frantic to get to me, and has stayed by my side since. She likes to be cuddled up to me at night, sit on, or near me in the day, and also comes to greet me when I get home.

I see it as quite an honour that such beautiful creatures (yes, I am cat mad) show such affection and trust, even after such bad starts in life.

A Couple of months ago I had 2 cats from CP, one is a She the other is a Tom.

My Tom, Custard won't move from me, he's like a second skin (unless sleeping). I think its because he had a very bad start-found on the roadside with brothers and sisters, skin and bone and cat flu! His fosterer was marvellous and now I have him and he's the sweetest boy.... but I know what you mean...if I didn't have Treacle my She kitten, who he adores but gets very jealous of, then I'm sure he'd be jumping in my bag when I go to work!

Really I think it's just a confidence thing with Custard, he seems to be needed to be reassured all the time that I'm not going to leave him and also he backs off when I go to stroke him so I have to do it by suprise otherwise he gets worrie!
