Yes another dog thread from I! I am in danger of becoming like an over protective parent!!!!

Anyway!

I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice.

I’ve booked an appointment with the Vets but would if possible like an idea before hand

My dog is passing blood

It looked like rather a lot, although he didnt yelp when doing so....

He was his normal self very hyper etc but has now become quite quiet and sleepy. He also seems quite irritated at times, jumping up and looking at his bottom.

He’s been strange anyway recently as its bitching season so when he played up most of the night I didn’t take to much notice only getting up to leave him into the garden a few times

So was shocked this morning too see lots of vomit and ’runs’ in the garden to clean

Family think as he is forcing himself to go to the toilet a lot since last night it could be a form of piles?

Not sure what his brought it on, as far as I’m aware he’s has nothing out of the way to eat.

Vomit and bloody diarrhea?

Could be haemorrhagic gastroenteritis.

Is the appointment today? I hope so.

Apart from the blood, does his wee look orange or darker than usual? Check his gums, are they pale or a healthy pink?

No I haven't got an appointment until 2 tomorrow, earliest they had.

He started the day his normal self as he seems to be getting more mopey as the day progesses.

I understand it could be something nasty but I hope not....

His urine has always been pretty dark so theres no change there really but shall try and check his gums's.

I'd phone the vet back and describe the symptoms and tell them you are worried. Perhaps they can squeeze you in at the end of surgery.

You should have said it was urgent and surely then they'd have seenm him today?

Agree with the above post. Ring and see if they can fit you in later today as you're worried.

If his gums are pale you need to get him to a vet NOW!
I'm not a vet and I'm not going to offer a guess at a diagnosis but this is how my youngest dog was last year and he turned out to be very seriously ill. Just as a matter of interest what breed of dog is he and has he had any booster vaccines or other medication recently?

I did explain I was concerned to the receptionist and why and she said she would put it on his notes, as well as his agression at the vets issue....

He did get alot worst this evening, and he hasn't moved off the sofa, from the same spot since 12.15pm....

I have been worried after doing a little research..

But he has now been coaxed to go for a walk and his tail was wagging like a crazy thing as he went though the door!

Nothing to eat all day though.

He is a jack russell, 4 years old and yes he has had all injections, although his last booster was 3 months late.... I'm worrying if that was enough for him to pick something up...

Gums seem a normal colour by the way....

He was sick alot a few weeks ago, and I though he just had an upset tummy, I wonder if that had something to do with it now, and I ignored the signs

Dogs are amazingly stoical and can hide a lot of discomfort and pain.

If he poops more blood on his walk, refuses water or seems to get worse, then please phone your vet's out of hours service for advice and speak to a vet - not the receptionist. No disrespect to receptionists of course.

It's extremely unlikely that a late vaccination would cause any illness, there's been a lot of controversy recently over whether we actually OVER vaccinate them. Do kids have to have a booster jab for measles every year? Some dogs immune systems can be over stimulated by repeated vaccination, which is what made my boy so ill. As a result my vet has agreed that he should never be vaccinated again. For him the risk of vaccination would be higher than the risk of NOT having it.
It's good that his gums are a normal colour but keep an eye on him, and good luck at the vets tomorrow.

Well he really perked up today, he is back to his old self

But more blood after he has been to the Loo again

Vets was a very stressful event for all!!!

His temperature is up so the vet says it could be any number of things including a Virus or worms as he has trouble keeping down the tablets I give him

I have to take him back Monday

He’s been given a kind of peppermint serum that he has to have three times daily

Just hope it clears up….

He has gone out for a walk now, seems himself

Just won't take his medication, it is in a syringe and he knows what is coming, there is no chance!!!

Its going to be an interesting few days!
