Dogs Trust - Sponsor a Dog Scheme
Anyone else on here sponsor a dog with the above? I have been doing so for a few years now. The original dog I chose was re-homed, and they allocated me another one, Amy at Merseyside. She always meant a lot to me as it was also the name of my last beloved dog, a Cav.
Today I received a letter from them telling me she had died. I absolutely fell apart, and cried buckets. How bad is that, I never met her, but felt nearly as bad as if she had been my own dog. ![]() They've sent me a photo and details of another dog to sponsor, he's lovely, but am at liberty to choose another if I wish, but will feel very mean if I don't stick with this one. I'd rather choose one from my nearest centre at Bridgend, as I may then have the chance to visit him or her. Has anybody else been faced with this decision?

I had the same thing a few years ago when one of my sponsor dogs died - I was really upset too so I know how you feel
Again they suggested an alternate dog and I went with the one they suggested as there weren't any centres near enough to me that I would be able to visit my sponsor dog anyway. If you do want to sponsor one at the centre near you instead I wouldn't feel guilty about it, each dog has many sponsors and I'm sure the money received from sponsorship is split equally across all centres so it's not like this dog will suffer if you choose to sponsor another one instead. Good luck with your choice

I also sponsor a dog at DT Harefield. Unfortunately he is not allowed visitors as it stresses him, i think he is around 4/5 and is very cute. As yet i have not experienced what you have and i am sure i would probably do the same as you.
I don't think DT will be upset or mind at all if you picked another dog, as long as you are the one sponsoring then it is entirely your decision

As upsetting as it is, just remember what a difference you will have made to that dog's life through your sponsorship.
