14-11-2008
hi i am thinking of changing from BT to Tiscali for my line rental as i am currently with them for my broadband and have received a litter telling me i can get the free line rental with my broadband.

Now i was wondering how long would it take to transfer and do i just ring up Tiscali or do i need to inform BT aswell, and will i get conformation from BT that my service has been transferred.

thanks john

you contact tiscali and they will take care of the talking to BT side of things, providing your not still in a 12/18 month contract with BT then BT won't charge you any early leaving costs.
tiscali will give you a date, and some point on that day our frames engineers will move your line accross onto tiscali's equipment(takes about 15-20Mins).

how long have you had the line for? they were usually just 12 months, but recently have started 18 month ones. mine is just over a year old and when i signed up wasn't offered 18months.

your best bet is to give bt a ring though.

yeah i think they said it was a 12 month contract and i have had it since Sept 2007 so i should be fine to change over

i need to change before my bill is due as they charge the next 3 month line rental in advance so i wont have to pay That just the call's if i change over before my bill date ?

plus how will i know when it has been moved over tp Tiscali's equipment on the said day, could i try ringing 150 see if it connects to bt would that work or will i get conformation from Tiscali themselves?

not quite sure how all the billing sides of things work.
but on the day you can tell if your on tiscali by dialing 17070 from your phone, the voise giving you the number will change. on BT it's a women who keeps knocking me back for a date, i think tiscali use a bloke who sounds like he smokes a hundred cigs a day.

LOL Tiscali and their crappy service...sooner they're bought the better, then their new owner can get rid of *that* name.
OP, please bear in mind if you change to Tiscali for line rental, then wish to change broadband providers, you will have to move back to BT which could leave you facing a £125 reconnection charge.

I changed from BT to Tiscali a few months ago. I cancelled my monthly direct debit with BT and they sent me a cheque refund for the remainder of the month that I didn't use. Tiscali also emailed me the expected day and time when they would take over, they said I might lose internet access for a few hours. For a few days after that I kept having intermittant 'cannot connect to server' when I tried to log on but it sorted itself out. Hope that this helps you.
