virgin media , tmf , are on the same multiplex . i accepted i couldent get it on my freeview (even though i could a few days ago) so this afternoon tried to get it through straight aerial feed no dilution of signal . it worked this afternoon but not this evening. no signal at al . the aerial is fed from winter hill. i take it my only option (living in a tower block) is to hope it comes back and to keep rescanning.

I think Good and Very good are the recommended signal strengths for reliable recording. Good is borderline.

Have you tried using a signal booster?

I have the newer DTR160 and have no issues with channels disappearing (Selkirk / Borders transmitter).

Medium is a bit low but if you're getting BBC1 etc from 56 ok you should be equally fine with Virgin.

Is it a communal aerial, being a tower block? Perhaps something the landlord/building management need to investigate?

Winter Hill B duplicates mux D on 40 but I'm not sure what direction it broadcasts. Depending on your location you might have some luck scanning manually for channel 40, but don't hold your breath.
