Looking for a good, reasonably priced upscaling DVD player
I have a Samsung PS50Q97 TV which I bought last October, and a JVC TH-S66 DVD player I bought not too long before. I have tried before to connect it via Component and again tonight. I seem to get a purply picture which flickers and then the TV comes up "Mode not supported". My Wii has been connected by component cable and I have had no problems
On the DVD remote control I have pressed the Scan Mode button and gone through RGB, Y/C and Progressive, but nothing seems to make a difference. I would like to connect it this way as the DVD player does not have an HDMI socket This leads me on to my main question, apart from how can I get the component to work, which is I am looking for an upscaling DVD player as this may be the best solution I chose a new Samsung 42 inch TV for my parents from the Dixons website last week which as part of a £700 offer which included a stand and a DVD home cinema system. I watched Spiderman through the DVD player and I thought it looked really good on 1080P upscaling mode. It even sounded a lot better than my JVC, but whether that was due to increased watts or the layout of speakers, I don't know As I mentioned earlier I have a 50 inch screen and my DVD player is currently connected via scart. I want to get as good a picture out of my DVDs (of which I have over 2000) as I can, obviously connected via HDMI, without the expense of going Hi-Def To this end, I am looking for an upscaling player. I have had a look at a few on Amazon and they seem all fairly similar. My JVC has got a 5.1 system built in, so I don't need anything with speakers, but I want to be able to connect the sound from the DVD player into the JVC through digital optical. I don't know whether that is the best way to do it or to have the sound go through HDMI and connect the optical cable from the TV to the JVC I don't want to spend a huge amount, and I kinda wished I bought an HD-DVD player while they were fairly cheap a few months back for their upscaling abilities, and I could have been bought some very cheap HD-DVD discs. What am I best getting? The one my parents have in the sitting room got a lot of good reviews, but it costs over £100, and it doesn't have floor standing speakers which I need as I don't have anywhere suitable for normal small speakers. Is it really worth buying a brand new system? And before anyone says, I did consider a separate Denon amp and DVD player at the time, which would have made the situation a bit easier Sorry if this is a really long post, but I thought it best to explain what I have got and what I am looking for fully. If anyone needs to know I am not a novice, just looking for some good recommendations and if possible an answer regarding the component connection I mentioned near the beginning of the post |
