Ipod touch wi-fi connection
Cyber Del
15-11-2008
I have purchased an ipod touch but am unable to connect to the internet via my wi-fi router (wireless works fine on my laptop). What am I doing wrong? Or more to the point what do I have to do to get connected?

1. Switch ipod on
2. press settings
3. press wi-fi (name of network included)
4. ask me to choose network. I choose mine. (wi-fi is on)
5. Press on my network (it has a tick next to it)
And nothing happens

the tick means that you're already connected. do you see the wifi bars to the right of where it says ipod (top left of screen)?

On the top left of the screen it says ipod and there are 3 bars in the shape of a fan.

you ought to be connected. those three bars mean you have full reception.

But when I touch on Safari it states:

Quote:
“
Cannot Open Page

Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet.
”

What am I doing wrong?

I know it sounds obvious and a typical helpline type answer but have you switched your pod off then on again. I mean proper switch off not just locking it. Press & hold top button until slide to switch off comes up?

I occasionally have this problem and it does seem to cure it

Yes I have switched it off and on again via the proper switch and it still returns with the error

this document (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398) suggests resetting the network settings on your ipod and as a last resort resting your router.

have you added the ipod as a trusted device??

the router may be blocking it !!

anyway software updates for the router

http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/DG834Gv3.asp

go into the router settings

go into wireless settings......................... on left side of page

go into setup access list........................... on centre of page

add your ipod and hopefully you know the mac code !!

copy and paste that in the internet address bar above

then admin and password for username and password should get you in

if your router is a password protected one and it is not asking for password, whilst in the wifi screen with wifi on click the blue arrow next to your routers name then click on forget network button then click the back button in top left and then choose the router again see if that works
