Switching sim cards from O2 phone to Vodafone phone

I have a K750i on O2 Pay&go but wish to change to Nokia 6300. To buy on O2 is more expensive than to buy on Vodafone. So can I buy the vodaphone 6300 then take the SIM from my K750i and put it in the 6300 and still be on O2 with the same number and all my contacts? What can I do with the SIM card from the 6300?

I am on 02 and have just bought a C905 on vodafone and my sim works fine and no i didnt have to have it unlocked hope that helps
