Hi, I finally made a decision on a tv and ordered a Sony Bravia 32" for £399.99 with 5yr guarantee from John Lewis last week. Delivery is not due until this Friday, my card has been charged, yet today I notice they have dropped the price to £329.99 - Where do I stand with this? I contacted their customer services this evening who said they could not help, ring back on Monday. Any ideas anyone please?

Just John Lewis being competitive and drumminmg up business. Sony are in the process of u[grading their range to include models with FreeSat HD built in like Panasonics new range. So it could also be that Sony have dropped the prices of their existing models. Confirm with customer services the price, if it has been reduced within the time you ordered and the time your card was charged you might have a case for a refund on the grounds that they had prior knowledge the price was going down and should have given you the option of waiting till the price dropped. They do have a motto "Never knowingly undersold!", but you could argue theytook advantage of the situation to get more from you!

I seriously doubt that any retailer has firm advance knowledge of manufacturer's plans to realign prices. I dealt with JLP when with Philips, we certainly wouldn't have released that sort of commercially sensitive info prior to the formal announcement.

There are better ways of dealing with retailers warehouse & shop stock after price adjustments. At Philips we called it 'stock compensation'. It was a simple credit per set once the serial numbers had been verified.

If the TV hasn't yet been delivered then a quick word with the sales staff might get the price adjusted. After all, they might have Sony's equivalent of stock comp to use in the adjustment. If not then you have the option to cancel and reorder or shop elsewhere.

You could always cancel it, and get it from PC World with a free surround sound system for the same price

Probably what will happen is that you contact John Lewis, explain the pricing situation, and they will tell you you are perfectly within your rights to return the item for a refund, once received, at your own expense. They will tell you the order is being processed and 'with another department' so they cannot cancel it. This is how companies normally work. I have placed orders at QVC and, albeit only several hours later, have been told the order is being processed and cannot, therefore, be cancelled.

hehehe you know that ain't gonna happen!

PC World/Currys only sell 5 year warranties.. they never give them away.....otherwise they'd have gone out of business years ago.

It's funny isn't it. A good deal never seems like a good deal until you can't get it any more

Definately...not! Not a bad deal. I wanted to get a set from John Lewis a while back as the 5 year guarantee was pretty good. Needless to say, the set's price shot up £100 over night

They're doign that model for £329.99 at Comet just now, without the guarantee right enough. Comet take the insurance in three installments though so it's not as much to pay all at once.

Just tell John lewis you've changed your mind, then buy it again from them at the cheaper price or from somewhere else. Everyone is entitled to take something back as long as they haven't opened it (I think).

Thank you for the replies - I'm very happy to report back that John Lewis have agreed to refund the £70 without any hassle. Will definetly shop there again - providing my tv does turn up on Friday as promised!
