West Indian Ready Meals
I've heard that you can now get West Indian ready meals but I can't seem to be able to find any. Does anyone know if you can get these and which supermarkets stock them?

Sainsbury's do a Jerk chicken in their Super Naturals ready meal range.
I have seen two ready meal dishes in my local Tescos (they were chilled ones, not frozen), they were packaged in a yellow, green and red style package. They would be difficult to miss. I believe Morrissons does a range too, the only link I can find is this - http://www.packaging-gateway.com/pro...lla-caribbean/ |

Thanks for that B&. I've never seen any in our local Sainsburys, infact I don't think they stock the Super Naturals range in there any more but I'll certainly give Asda another try. Thanks again.

I've got really into Jamaican food lately. It's not the healthiest out there though.
I'm fortunate that I'm in the position that there's a couple of Caribbean take outs near me. Portion of curry goat with 'rice and peas' comes to about £5 - I get the small portion and I've still never managed to finish it. Fills me up to the brim and don't need to eat anything else all day. Best thing is the lunchtime jerk chicken special. Portion of jerk chicken, with spicy gravy and salad. With a festival dumpling (the best and most unhealthy thing I've discovered ina long time) and a can of drink - all for £3. I'd be inclined to get some jerk chicken in the freezer from the stores if it was available. That said I'm sure I could find a recipe somewhere. |

I dread to think what a Jamaican ready meal would taste like.
If it's your first time trying it you'd be better off going to a proper West Indian take away and buy a £5 meal.

There was a couple on Dragons Den trying to get a business going making Carribean ready meals. Could be the same ones. I think James Caan gave them the money.
I'll stick with homemade though. I'm making curried goat, rice & peas, saltfish fritters and jerk chicken wings for dinner on Tuesday as my sister is coming round for the evening! |

I had some jerk chicken from tesco a few months ago. It was ok, nothing special.
I really wish we had Caribbean take-aways here

It took me an age to get my mother to try take away West Indian food. Throw a stick round my area and you will find a shop, we have so many of them. So anyway, down here for a visit she tried some, and liked it, but I had made sure to buy in the daytime when it was fresh cooked. She's adamant though that she will not eat Supermarket packaged stuff. Her reasoning is "What do White people know about Jamaica food?" I tried to point out that it was likely that the chefs would be Black and would be involved in the cooking and packaging process. That didn't cut any ice with her, and you know what, I think I agree. For me it's the idea that preservatives and whatnot would be built into the recipes, over-riding any 'authentic' wording on the packaging.
