Renault Clio In-Car Radio

Looking to upgrade from an in-car cassette to cd player. However, the car has a remote on the steering wheel and I would still like to utilise this. Thinking of getting the Sony CDXL280, does anyone know if the remote will still work with this model, or if there is an add on i could buy for it to work? Cheers

Hi Barry,

I had the same problem, I bought my Clio new about two years ago and wanted a minidisk. There is a cable you can get so that it still works but I think it's only compatible with some makes. Mine is Sony so I'd imagine you would be ok. I had a few places tell me that it wasn't possible though so you might have to shop around a bit. And when it's installed a lot of the front dash has to come up and steering unit so don't be alarmed if it looks like they are pulling your car apart.

You're going to need something like this.

You didn't mention which Clio you had so I had to guess a bit!!

I checked the Sony website and the CD player you mention doesn't support the remote commander that you would need for this to work, you will have to spend a bit more money and get this CD player.

I got a Sony CD player for my 306 recently from Halfords. I asked about getting an adaptor for the column stalk, this was £30 and had to order it. This also included the Sony>DIN adaptor for the main power and speaker connections, but on opening the box and finding power/speakers adaptor included, I cancelled the order for the stalk adaptor, and decided to make do with the buttons on the unit. Besides, the proper Sony steering column control is only about £25 and you get more functions on it.

Thanks for advice, its actually my g/f's car so she prob wont want any hassle or extra expense so may get one with its own remote. nother possibility could be a cd changer that works thru an existing head unit via fm. Are these still available? Haven't seen them for a while, and wonder if they are still legal as i recently tried to buy an itrip for my ipod to find out they were banned in uk as it broadcasts its own fm frequency. Surely these cd changers operate in same way? Anyway thanks for speedy response guys, much appreciated.
