Talk Talk bar on phone line at new house....
Finally got a chance to see if our line was still active on Saturday before sorting out service with BT. Plugged in phone, got a dial tone, tried 17070 to check the number only to hear something along the lines of "TalkTalk have put a bar on this line, to release this please have your card details at hand" followed by "Enter your TalkTalk number now..." repeatedly with no option to speak to a real human. I'm guessing the previous occupants didn't pay their bill (they didn't pay the bills for a lot of things which we're already clearing up...) so I was just wondering how I should tackle this? Should I just contact BT and move my current line or will I have to contact Talk Talk and let them know the previous peeps have done a runner?

quick add.; I don't have the Talk Talk number or I would've used it when it was requested... tried searching on here using numerous search terms but I must be missing something, I would've thought this wasn't a unique experience...

It's likely Talk Talk (even if you could get to speak to someone) will be no help at all - they will only be interested in getting the money they appear to be owed.
Your best option (I know this sounds ridiculous) is to get BT to install a NEW line. That'll cost you £124.99 or, if you're lucky and are willing to accept the 18 month contract, £24.99 via BT's current offer. |

Just go through the new order process with BT, they may just re-enable the old line, not sure how it works.
Did it recently for my mum, i just ordered online, and they re-enabled the old socket a week later, and as it was already there, they didn't charge (and i know this was on Talk Talk previously, as it was my old line when i was there). She even got the same phone number i had on the line. |

Righto, ta for that, I was thinking that just getting on to BT would be the best route but thought I'd see what other folks experiences were. Cheers!

Ended up having to call Talk Talk, anyway, as we got a letter from them today threatening the previous occupant with bailiffs for £46.98! We didn't want anyone coming around so I called them and put them straight, they seemed scarily reasonable...

You opened mail addressed to someone else? Best not let anyone know that.

Wasn't me, guv, i'm currently 250 miles away!
![]() Anyway, I stand by the decision and Talk Talk didn't complain either. We've bought a repo and don't want to take any flack for the previous occupants cock-ups... |

More fun n games... BT have now said they can't put another line in or take over the current line until Talk Talk disconnects, even though Talk Talk last night said that, because previous customer has done a runner and can't cancel herself, I should contact BT and they should take over the line which, in turn, would kick Talk Talk off...
BT op was saying that because Talk Talk are over LLU they can't do anything and BTW this offer only applies to cable customers coming back to BT but we'll give it to you anyway.... So, what the heck should I do now? I'll try contacting Talk Talk again but was the BT op giving me fluff?

there is no reason why BT can't have a new line installed at the property, they can't take over the talk talk line until they have released it.

Sweet, done deal with BT, connection at 29.99. Also said that, unless I specifically wanted to take out a new 12 month contract on the broadband, the current contract would just run out at the end of January - I was surprised at that as usually you're automatically tied in to another 12 month minimum term! If she's not just fobbed me off this gives me time to check out the other BB providers in the area... WIN
