There are no 'issues' in Merioneth's post. It's quite obvious from the post that they're only highlighting how ridiculous it is that such an media uproar is taking place over a silly competition when there are far more important issues the press could be ranting about. I think the prize kind of sums it up - why should it really bother anyone who takes home and plastic glitter ball?

I read a sensible idea on a thread of another forum recently. Just pretend that John isn't in the competition. His fans are going to keep voting for him in huge numbers, so he's never going to be in the bottom two until there are so few good dancers left in the competition that they eventually combine to outnumber his fans.

When he comes on to dance, go and make a cup of tea or something. Pretend he's not there, then the dancers who are in the bottom two will be the bottom two of those you saw dance. It will make much more sense to you, and you needn't get riled up by seeing some flat footed idiot who thinks it's a complete laugh getting by without having an ounce of talent and without really putting in the effort. You'll feel much better and won't need to come on here complaining each week. I'm sure it'll work. It's what I intend to do next Saturday. His dancing is such cow's poo any way that there's no need to watch it. You know you won't be missing anything and that it won't be better than any of the others. Stay away from it. You'll feel better. [/quote]

Sorry to snip your original post but it was big - I thought this was a good idea too, and it works to an extent. But, and it's a big but. Cherie would have done ballroom had she not been eliminated, and Lisa may have done ballroom. They're both weak in latin! They could have had breakthrough weeks!

Another Jodie fan here! Wasn't at the beginning but I now love her warmth, modesty and delight each week ..she gives the impression that she is loving the dancing and the whole experience. Christine does as well but I just don't like her.

Think it interesting that Ramps. Alesha, and Jill all gave the impression that they were all really enjoying the experience and not just going for a 'win'. As for John and Kristina...I still find them entertaining and the judges comments even more so!

As for Arlene's comments about Kristina's costumes...well if I had a body like Kristinas, I'd jolly well wear those costumes as well! Kristina is delightful! Arlene is coming across rather badly over the last few days.

I, for one, don't begrudge anybody enjoying John's dancing.

But your splitting up the audience into two different groups doesn't really make sense. Do you think that people who are voting for any of the other six dancers don't want to be entertained? Do you think we don't smile when any of them do well?

If anyone is taking it "terribly seriously", it is a group of John's fans who are telling other people it is a 'point of principle' to vote for him, who are endlessly rubbishing anyone who dares suggest that the word 'Dancing' in Strictly Come Dancing might be relevant and erroneously claiming that John is being bullied. They are the people who seriously need to get some perspective.

Interesting that you claim to be a fan of Alesha. How would you have felt if she hadn't won SCD5 because Kate Garraway was being kept in week after week and romped her way to being champion in a comedy stylee?

Thats the second time on this thread that you have said EXACTLY what I was thinking - (I best not bother writing anymore I'll just sit back and let you do all the work!!) - SO AGREE WITH YOU 100%.

Are you sure???

Why should he be humble?

I have read a number of disparaging comments about John's supporters - one suggesting they are ruining the programme for the 'more discerning,' and now they are causing you desperation!

Where is the humility in that?

You may think John's fans foolish but they tune in on a Saturday and Sunday night; sit back with the chocolate, wine, popcorn or whatever. Have a thoroughly enjoyable time and whoop with delight when he goes through yet again, whilst the self proclaimed 'discerning' sit there weeping and wailing and gnashing their teeth.

I love watching John perform in his natural environment - the studio. ITT on Monday was brilliant - the rhetorical skill of the Oxford University debating society and decades of reporting brought to bear on the trivial issue of SCD; the caressing, silky voice, the self-deprecation and humble tone, the carefully-deployed straw-men ('It's surely not a crime...') - wonderful and hilarious. I'd love to see him as a renaissance pope reassuring a rival while, behind the scenes, his minions are sharpening their stilletos and infusing the pages of bibles with poison. [Given the febrile state of this forum at the moment, I probably need to clarify - I'm not actually calling John a murderer.]

Can't stand to watch him dance, though.

Why should he apologise? - its not his fault that the GBP like him better than the contestants in the dance off

LOL! It does make me laugh that people think he is like a cuddly teddy bear!

Okay so now John has 'fallen on his sword' and left the competition who are you going to pick on next? Oh and joy, looks like another two couple final.

Which is wonderful if you find John entertaining.

A great many of us don't!

I'm really sorry John has gone. I've loved his contribution this year (apart from the dancing, of course). I've never regretted his participation or criticised his presence, though I wouldn't have voted for him and have been assuming he'd be gone in the next week or two anyway. It's a shame - and a surprise, as he gave every indication of keeping the matter in perspective. However, I wouldn't worry about wondering who will be picked on next - by the look of the thread headings, John supporters are baying for revenge already.

Sadly for John the band wagon he started with the voters turned into an uncontrollable monster. I honestly believe he himself thought he would be out this week which is why he has done what he has.

Somewhat contradictory posts I venture.
