Kitten chewing electrical wires, help!
Hiya, this is my first post here after lurking. My kitten likes to chew electrical wires and I don't want him to hurt himself! Has anyone found a way to stop cats chewing wires? Thanks.

Hi I'd like to be the first to welcome you to DS, try rubbing the wires with a bit of Tabasco sauce.

Make sure you pick up the kitten and move him from the wires say NO in a stern low voice thats what i did it took time but now it stops him, just saying NO is best way or using the tabasco sauce because kittens/cats just want attention wether it be good or bad they don't care!
Oh and Welcome to DS!

Pepper spray/dust is another. You can get this from hardware stores. Rubbing this over the wires will keep the kitten away from it.
Also, there's tubing you can buy for wires, that encases all strewn wires into one tube..... don't know if that would help Good luck and welcome to the site that likes to advise, inform and banter lol

Welcome.
I have a puppy and when he goes for things he shouldn't, (which is frequently!) I say NO and remove him. Keep trying that. If it really doesn't work, then I'd recommend something not-so-nice tasting on the wires.

Welcome to DS
, hope you get as much enjoyment out of the site as I have/do.Another thing you can try, is grated orange peel around the wires - from what I remember cats don't like orange peel - the only drawback is the wee bits of orange peel that you would have to keep clearing and renewing for a wee while, but at least it doesn't smell to unpleasant |

Delia says Liberally coat in olive oil and wait for the smell of cooking. After 10 mins at 240v, turn off at the mains, and serve with chips and salad. An expensive bottle of a full bodied red wine is optional.
Just think of it as an opportunity to give him a good send off before he ruins all your carpets, rips your sofas to shreds, claws and bites you while ripping your flesh apart, and turns in to a evil, vicious killing machine. |

My two still like to chew wires and anything stringy. They know the word NO but are just plain naughty...and they're no longer kittens. Only this morning one scampered out of my bedroom with his belly on the floor so I knew one of them had done something. When I looked, my mobile phone charger was chewed in half.
I had heard that they're attracted to the copper in the cables but to be honest my two love anything stringy..like the blind cords for my brand new blind!!!!! Grrr. |

mine broke my last pc when he was a kitten by chewing and hanging off the cables. I bought JML cable tidies from Woolworths for everything after that. He's grown up now and is too cool to chew things. He won't even play with toys.
