Hi,

Im contemplating getting a slingbox but have been reading some mixed reports that it will and wont work with Sky BB.

Basically, thought id check on here (somewhere i trust) to see if anyone out there is currently using one sucessfully with Sky BB?

And if so, is it straightforward to get it up and running, or are there some tricks specific to the Sky ISP? (if so what are they?!?)

I guess im just a little wary seeing as there are reports of problems. No smoke without fire etc etc.

Thanks in advance.

Apparently something to do with the box needing a static IP and sky using a dynamic one. Ive seen people hint at the fact its a problem, and others hint at being able to work around it, but no definitive answer.

I'll re-post in that forum too. Didnt quite know where to put it initially, it could just as easily go in the networking sub-section too!

Most people have dynamic IP addresses, I'm sure a Slingbox will come with instructions for using it like that - the Sony one does.

I've got one with Sky BB. Hardly use it but when I do it always works fine.

As mentioned, most home internet is a Dynamic IP. Realistically this doesn't change often, and I assume something in the slingbox updates the server every so often so it knows its current IP (like noip/dyndns)

Just set up a DynDNS account to get around the Dynamic IP problem. However doe's it not break Sky's T&C's..??

I do have one running on a Be* Pro account and my mother loves watching UK TV abroad.

BTW the Slingbox has its own ID. So when you set it up and input the Sling ID into Sling Player it will find it anywhere on the Internet. Click Here
