Should there be an X-factor type audition?

To avoid this annual controversy, I wonder whether there should be an X-factor type audition by the judges to weed out the 'comics' entries. The likes of Sergeant could come on for the auditions to get the 'entertainment' aspect out of the way before getting down to the real nitty gritty of the proper dance competition.

Remove the entertainment aspect and the viewing figures will drop like a stone.

Nope.

There is no equivalent of a recording contract available to the winner of Strictly.

It's just for fun.

I find watching people who can actually dance entertaining, personally.

The OP makes an interesting point though. We could have 4 weeks of has-been and little-known "celebs" making absolute berks of themselves in auditions in front of the judges, just like X-Factor but with celebs! My warped sense of humour says that would be funny And then, swiftly onto the people who have potential...

I think Alesha Dixon might disagree with you there

I'm sure you do and I'm sure lots of others do too, but the viewing figures would still plummet.
