Volume Question For Ipod Touch & Touch 2G Users

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone here can tell me about the situation with the volume on these gorgeous devices. I know that the Touch 2G has extended battery life as well as push button volume control, but do both devices go to the same loudness without jail breaking.

I like my music loud so I can't hear others on the bus / train but am also respectable enough to have it so they can't hear it.

The reason I am asking is that I am really tempted to get the first gen from argos for £148 but am also unsure how much better the 2nd gen is with the £219 price tag.

Can anyone here tell me if the volume restriction is really bad or not or both devices ?

The 2G supposedly has better audio quality, possibly leading to crisper sounds at higher volumes. As for their limits, I'm unsure but my 2G can go really loud without distortion through my CX300s.
As in, I can have them more than a foot away in a moderately noisy environment and still hear the lyrics.

Both the Touch 1G and 2G are subject to European restrictions which mean the iPod is volume limited..the US models don't suffer the same restriction

As soon as I replaced the rubbish ipod headphones with some decent Sony headphones, it made a fair difference.

I've got a 2G 16GB iPod Touch and with my JVC headphones on I'm sitting here listening to Pendulum's In Silico and with the volume on just over half it's plenty loud enough!
