I did have a Tom Tom Go 520 before it was stolen the other night, so it looks like im going to have to buy a new one.

I understand that the Tom Tom go 530 / 730 / 930 ranges are out now with the new maps on and the iq routing and also the advanced lane guidance.

I have seen the 920 on offer on a website for a real good price, and was wondering if i bought this, is it possible to update the software via the computer cradle so that it has the new updated maps on the device, and also the new features which the tom tom go new ranges have?

You can indeed update the x20 range to the latest version of firmware and maps.

In fact I doubt you would notice a huge difference between an x20 and x30 with the same version of firmware and maps.

Just be aware however. The firmware updates are free, map updates may not be. If you are buying a new device you get a Latest Maps Guarantee that entitles you to one free map download. As long as you are quick about it! That should get you the latest map. However after that you will have to raid the piggy bank.

One thing though you may want to consider, is signing up to TomTom's quarterly update scheme. The cost varies depending on what maps you want and how much you have spent buying maps from them in the past. But basically you get four updates per year for less cost than if you bought them separately.
