I'm feeling sick, sad and depressed.

Cat hasn't been well for the last few days; vet told us he's got the animal version of Aids (feline Aids or something).

He was such a normal cat last week, fit and healthy, and now to see him in such a poor state (so thin and scrawny). He hasn't been eating or drinking these past few days and he's in such pain

I feel so sad typing this

We've had him for over 10 years and he was such a lovable and gorgeous cat; totally unlike the other cats in the area. He'd go to everyone, whether he knew them or not.

(((((hugs)))))

im so sorry to hear about your cat. i know it will be of no comfort to you just now, but in time you'll accept that it was the best thing for him, as he's no longer suffering.

thinking of you x

So sorry to hear that. One of our cats had that but she managed to survive for a while with various treatments but we eventually had to make that decision. It's awful. So sorry.

Thank you, all.

I just can't stop thinking of him at the moment. The last time I saw his was this morning, just before I went to work. He had his head down, just made some slight movements, and then went back into the state he was in.

I could tell he was in pain, and there was nothing I could do

Yes, it's awful not being able to help but cats know when someone is there for them and he'd know you were trying to help.

I am so sorry but you did the right thing for your beloved pet.

I'm sure he had many happy years with you before he became ill.

My heart really goes out to you - I had to have 2 cats put to sleep last year and it was the most heart breaking decision I ever had to make but it was the right one for them - they're no longer suffering.

Losing a pet can be as stressful as losing a human relative. I still miss mine to bits even though I have 2 other cats now.

Just take each day as it comes. You know you've done the right thing by your cat who is now in feline heaven and free from pain.

It's an awful decision to have to make but you know you did the best thing for your beloved pet.

It sounds as if he had a wonderful life with you - he will have known how much he was loved.

Thinking of you today,

Thinking of you.
There's no easy way to get over it except to know you did the right thing, your cat had a lovely life with you, and you have to now take one day at a time.
I've had cats all my life and couldn't live without them but every time one dies, whether from old age, getting killed or becoming ill, it is never any easier.

I am so sorry for your loss and I echo everyone else on here by saying that you had 10 wonderful years with him, he knew you loved him and that now he is not suffering. It is very, very sad and I am so sorry. I lost mine 9 weeks today and I still miss him. Sending you my best xxx

Thank you so much again for your wonderful responses; it's made a lot of difference on how I'm feeling at the moment.

Well it's been a few hours since he was put to sleep; the vet gave us a choice of whether we'd like him cremated or buried. After discussing this with everyone, we decided to bury the beautiful thing.

We're still deciding on whether to lay him to rest in a pet cemetery, or in a private area of some sort. Unfortunately we don't have a garden big enough for a burial (the space has to be a minimum of 4 feet deep).

How would the burial take place ? Is it similar to a human one ? - i.e. will the area need to be dug before he's buried, or will it happen there and then ?

BTW, the vets were lovely, and said they'd keep him for about a week before we made any decision (but it's going to be a burial).

I'm so so so sorry for your loss of your little man cat.
Please accept my condolences.
Cat aids is serious, I knew a friend who's cat suffered with that illness.

What I will ask though, which I know you are doing any way, is to remember him for all the love and cuddles he brought to you and your house. Remember all the funny times, and the times he made you smile and just be thank ful that he had a very very happy life with you.

I've just been told my cat will have to have a toe removed and may not make it through the anastetic becuase she is only 3 kilo's bless her but because she is a sensitive cat, she may not pull through. When that time comes, I will be remembering every happy memory of her and crosss all of my limbs in the hope she pulls through.

I am so sorry for you and him, they say times a healer, you'll never forget him and the effect he had on your life.

You gave your cat the ultimate act of kindness by relieving him of all his pain.

He'll love you from cat heaven for that

And feline aids is not like human aids, until it gets muddled with other diseases. Cats can have it in their system for years, the only thing is that it can be passed on easily, usually by fighting. It's not such a killer.

As for burials, this might help - http://www.cpccares.com/
