for this last battle can't be won.

You will be sad I understand,
don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day more than the rest,
your love and friendship stands the test.

We've had so many happy years, what is to come can hold no fears.
Would you want me to suffer?
So when the time comes please let me go,
take me where my needs they'll tend
only stay with me until the end.
And hold me firm and speak to me,
until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see, it is the kindest you can do for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
from pain and suffering I've been saved.
Do not grieve, it should be be you,
who must decide this thing to do.

We've been so close, we too these years,
don't let your heart hold any tears.”

Sad for your loss.

What a lovely eulogy.

At least you gave the dog love and a good home.

It's always sad but i'm sure they know your helping them.

Jules, I understand how you will be feeling as do others.
Our pets bring us years of unconditional love, laughter, companionship, frustration sometimes, comfort and sometimes sadness but those memories are their wonderful legacy.
When my Timmy passed a friend sent me this poem.

Beyond the Rainbow

As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wonderous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.

I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful--lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.

I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I'm alright
That this place is truly wondrful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
'Twas the Glow of many Candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.

For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we're never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.

CXC3000 and Jules - sympathy and hugs to both of you. When my cat died in 2001, I couldn't stop crying, and my mum is the same whenever any of her dogs die. I agree they are in heaven but in my view it's the same heaven for everyone. And I'm serious - I believe it.

People say they`re sorry,
And they mean it from the heart,
But to understand your heartache, They could never even start,
To have a loss like you have had, Is too much to understand,
We see it and we feel for you, But its only secondhand,
You`re the ones who are suffering,
And we`re the ones who care,
But if there`s anything we can do,
Call us, we`ll be there.

Steven, you clever old stick!! I am so jealous! My poetry is terrible - and even worse when I try to make it rhyme.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It is so painful and heartbreaking. I know how it feels. I lost my beloved Benji to cancer 14 years ago and last night I was sobbing over him. I've two others dogs now and a cat.
I can't do it physically, but please imagine me putting my arms around you and giving you a hug !
My friend's baby Angela died 24 years ago today at six months old.
I'm thinking of you and crying ,too !

I'm so sorry for the loss of your lovely dog, I lost one my beloved greyhounds, Comet, in April last year and I still miss him so very much.

May your lovely pet run free at the Rainbow Bridge until you meet again

Take care

I've lost a beloved pet this week too and I've been so touched and heartened by the responses here on this forum. In our lives it's often very hard to find people who are in tune with our love of animals. I've been ridiculed in the past for being upset over lost pets and felt as though I was in a wilderness of callousness. Coming here and talking about my cat (Very Poorly Cat thread) has given me such a lot of comfort.

So I'd like to offer my sympathy to the OP and all those who are grieving for their pets. I hope we all soon remember the happy times rather than these dark days.

I thought that I would join in on this thread.

On Saturday we had to have our family pet Simba put down. He was only ten years old and he was a beautiful White German Shepard. He had suffered quite a lot in life with a bad digestive sytem and his back end going quite a lot.

OP I know exactly how you feel, my mum is in bits as Simba was really the last connection with my dad after he passed (We got Simba for my dads xmas back in 1998).

I can pull myself together as I have a dog of my own so I take comfort from him but my mum is just devastated - she hates coming hom from work to see that he is not there to greet her.

I dont want to hijack your thread I just wanted to say that my thoughts are with and I know what you are going through.

I wish you all the best and I know that in the near future we will all feel a little better.

xx
