Why do I get ITV2 through a normal aerial?
It baffles me why I get it. It's not a perfect picture but I get sound and a fuzzy picture which is still watchable. I was going to play my PS2 earlier and I noticed something coming through on the channel I use.I moved the aerial around and suddenly it was there. We have Sky downstairs but thats on a different channel. Any ideas why? I'm on the Black Hill transmitter.

someone living close by may be using an illeegal video sender. It could also be a "cable leak" - when one or two channels of cable tv somehow can be picked up on normal analogue thru aerial. Both have been known 2 happen
Are you sure its ITV2 - and you werent just watching a long promo for ITV 2? |

It's ITV2 for sure. It's full programming. If it was someone using a video sender wouldn't it have had a press red banner on the screen during Pop Idol Extra earlier. I don't know about your "cable leak" theory. There's no cable tv in my area, none for a few miles. It is weird. It comes up on ch36 just before Five. Why ITV2 I would've preffered something else.

It could also be from someone's a DTT box leaking out of their aerial and into yours. Remember, an RF modulator is just a very low powered TV transmitter.

not if it was sourced from DTT because freeview does not have interactive on ITV2.The theory about the RF Modulator sound quite likely. Can you take a screenshot - is the picture still their? and does the picture sort of fade in and out? |

As the only way you can receive ITV2 is by terrestial digital or by satellite digital receiver, (you have no cable nearby anyway), then it stands to reason that there is a Freeview or Sky box nearby which is picking it up and somehow passing it to you on an RF frequency.
First suspect would be your own digibox - switch it off - does the ITV2 picture go away? If not, it's one of your neighbours who is "leaking". Check late at night to see if they change it to porn, then you might guess which neighbour it is... |

I know it's not our digibox. We have Sky downstairs as well as upstairs. The one upstairs is only used for NASN. The one downstairs was on a completly different channel. All around me my neighbours have either got Freeview or Sky Digital. As it's a comunal areial and dish.

ah, that makes it very likely the signal is from the freeview box in one of your neighbours flats. Somehow their Output may be conencted into the RF Input on their wall?this could be piping it around the flats. If you are good friends with anyone in the flats, tune their tv and see if they can get ITV 2 |

But I'm not picking it up using the comunal aerial I'm using a small indoor one.Plus it ain't flats either. All the houses in the street are connected to the aerial. I can't get it downstairs on the TV thats connected to the comunal one. This just gets more strange as this post goes on.

Which direction does your indoor aerial point to - is there a house in line of sight?
You must be getting a spurious RF signal from a box somewhere - unless the Black Hill transmitter is secretly sending out ITV2 signals - which I think is not allowed... |

yup, its definetly from a freeview decoder - not sky. If it was from a sky decoder - you would see the "press red" in the corner

I think now for sure it's from a freeview box. As yesterday it was showing CBBC channel then when that went off air it came up with the off air thingy with the channel numbers for FreeView. I also moved my aeirial a bit and now get it in colour. Stranger and stranger.

That does indeed confirm the source as a Freeview box if it's the blue 'close down' caption...

New reporting
My brother could pick up ITV2 on his tv a couple of years ago. No freeview boxes then. Only ITV digital. but now u can't get it so I think it must be a leakage. Maybe from an old ITV digital box.

Maybr it is only old ITV digital boxes that interfere with terrestrial.

Some kind of leakage or amplifier with poor screening. I have noticed the same sort of thing.
We have 1 Sky box which is then connected to a booster/distribution box - so we Sky in (all the same channel) in all 3 rooms in the house down the aerial wire. With this swithed on, signals leak out into the air - and I can prove it. I have a Casio pocket tv with telescopic aerial. Put this in auto scan, and it will pick up our Sky signal (near the top end of the tuning scale). Remember - their is no cable connection linking the pocket tv to the main system! |
