My Shar Pei has a small patch of lice. I have always used Frontline in the past to treat her but as she has never had fleas, does anybody know of any other treatments for Lice that I could use that would be cheaper, but just as good as Frontline..?

I can't answer that question about dogs, but about cats, the answer is - no.

I've tried a hundred different flea treatments on my cats, and the only really effective one is frontline. It is expensive, but knowing that it's going to work makes it worth paying for.

ETA: I didn't know what a shar pei looked like, so I just googled it, and I gotta say.. what a beautiful dog!

I use Advocate - its a topical spot-on treatment for dogs and cats; kills fleas, prevents heartworm, hookworm, roundworm and whipworm and controls mange, ear mites and lice. Available from vets.

No such thing as a patch of lice. The dog is ridden with fleas and probably the house by now too. If you use Frontline as a preventative rather than a "treat"ment, it sn't half as much money or effort as fumigating the animal, it's bedding and carpets, upholstery and soft furnishings.

My dog had fleas a week or 2 back and used some supermarket rubbish toget rid of them - everyone one here advised Frontline. I took her to the vets to get checked over and the vet said for every 1 flea killed, there are another 100 in your carpets and furnishings...

I enquired about Frontline and said that people said it was the best, she said it is excellent and even though they used to use it there are even better products and she reccomended "PRAC-TIC" - it was about £6.50 for 3 months as well.

I dont think the house needs fumigating necissarily, unless the fleas have been there a long time and the place is riddled... once the next batch hatch, they will be killed as soon as they leap on the dog, well before they lay more eggs - cycle broken
