Orange blinking light DHD4000
BlackCloud
19-11-2008
Folks what's the way to get out of the blinking orange light if there is one?

Typically I'd be in bed asleep at 3 in the morning when it does it's EPG download but just now I unusually was down here having a cup of tea and saw the download start and end with a blinking orange light. Found it wouldn't switch on and still won't switch on after power cycle?

Is there a solution or was it fate that I was woken to witness the death of my 4000?

Following up my own post...but went to bed and several hours later come down to find stable red light and it switches on fine, no errors. I'll leave the above post simply and this simply as a sign of hope for anyone who experiences same. It might sort itself out after a few hours of possibly disc checking a bad epg download or something.

It was probably that you didn't wait long enough. The nightly OAD takes over half an hour to complete. You were typing your post less than 5 minutes after it completed last night (at least that was when it finished on Crystal Palace).

Thanks, you may be right as i don't usually see it at this time Albert. But would it be that you cannot switch it on during this time? It wouldn't switch on.

Yes it is the case that once this has started you can't switch the unit on and I would say power cycling while this is going on could be dodgy in respect of any firmware updates that may take place (some hope now!). If you're using the box at the time it starts you are offered the choice to abort the download and continue using it (I think you only get 15 seconds to choose).

Usually the download lasts just over thirty minutes, but occasionally it may last until 4 am. On the occasion I witnessed this, the EPG turned out to have had some kind of download error, and there were far more than 14 pages in the Engineering menu.

Thanks for the explanations folks. Typically I (and most folks) wouldn't be around at 3am. Obviously the reason Thomson chose that time to do it so people didn't meddle or likely need it. It seems fine now and I'm pleased my 4000 is ok as has been said before there is almost nothing out there right now I think is such a perfect replacement and I would only gain increased capacity.
