Who first introduced the "guitar move" to the world of dance?
ESPIONdansant

You know!
That thing James did on Cherie.
Don't forget Gary's bizarre antics with Karen.

It looks sh!t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does this exist in professional show-dance?
Who started it?
I think I remember Vinthenth doing it before...

And should that man be SHOT?

I saw the leg guitar once at the australian dancesport championships in a pro comp. I think that was 1992 or 1993. So imagine my suprise to see it crop up again 15 years later! And it still looks naff! Have no idea who did it first but that move should be put out to pasture. cringe anyone???

And woody the woodpecker move.

This is not a Jordan bashing thread - Karens xylaphone move was awful too.

I think you may find that was Gary's move and Karen allowed him to put it in .
The " novelty "moves are unsurprising for a " weaker" dancer and also in the early dances when the pro is trying to get the measure of the celebrity .

Do you remember the show Gladiators? One of the gladiators was called Jet, and she used to play her leg like a guitar. I think that's where it first came from, back in the early 90s.

It was invented during a competition for

The Oldest Rocker in the World

I can understand Gary using it. Sadly he did it really badly but then his dancing was awful too.

But James? Why?
Len is always yakking on about what he doesn't like. Why doesn't he pick that out?
Cherie was a capable dancer and he made her part of something very silly.

So we've got as far back as Gladiators. I'm assuming that the Oldest rocker in the World championship isn't real?

Am I right about Vinthenth doing it before?
I'm sure I've seen it in SCD in previous series...

Flavia used it in her cha cha with Matt last series, iirc

Oh dear, oh dear.

Why did Karen allow that?! Did she want Gary out as soon as possible?

It's too cheesy for words.

After reading your title, I was just coming on to say, whoever it is should be shot! Great minds!

I remember Jet saying she copied it from someone though.

A slightly similar move was used twice in a recent dance on DWTS - Julianne and Cody's jive.

Len's comments, on that occasion:

"All that guitar up the leg... got on my wick...".

Video, with Len's comments:

It was horrible, quite inelegant! Still they all make mistakes (xylophone, chicken head...).

all novelty moves look totally crap - I wish they wouldn't, it's not funny and it's NOT clever

it put me right off James and Cherie's dance (not as much as the fact that it was James doing it, but still)
