Someone I knew had a high cholesterol level. On their diet sheet given to them by the doctor it said that eggs should be eaten in moderation as they are high in cholesterol.

If you suffer from high cholesterol it might not be doing you any favours eating eggs every day.

Actually the egg's not bad, I'd ditch the bread though if I was trying to lose weight.

Having the same thing for tea everyday isn't good for anyone, but there's nothing to worry about in the egg itself I wouldn't have thought.

A load of bunk, eat as many eggs as you like, they are the perfect food with all nutrients in the correct proportions.

OP: Ditch the bread though you're not doing yourself any favours.

Not all bread is bad - highly processed white bread etc.. is worth avoiding but having a small slice of organic granary or wholemeal with a boiled egg wouldn't be a problem.

I heard cholesteral wise you should have no more than 3 eggs a week, calorie wise an eggs what, about 80-100 depending on size, bread's about 80/95 a slice (depending on size as well) so it's not bad for an evening meal if you're dieting, but don't you get bored eating the same thing, and it probably depends what your other meals consist of, I'd vary it a bit.

My diet sheet from the Doc. (for high blood pressure and losing weight) said eat as many eggs as you like a week, as long as you only eat the yolks from 2 of them

Why don't you try poaching the and have it on one slice of toast. It would make a change.

Summary - lots of healthy people ate two eggs a day for 3 months.

No change to their cholesterol levels.

Food standards also say there's no limit on how many eggs a person can eat.

Right from your own link:

But the cholesterol we get from our food has much less effect on the level of cholesterol in our blood than the amount of saturated fat we eat.
Dietary cholesterol is only one factor in why some people have elevated cholesterol levels, and its generally not the most important factor.

If your doctor warns you to avoid eggs because of a cholesterol problem, then by all means take their advice. It's also probably not a good idea to eat nothing but eggs all day long. But a fairly healthy person trying to eat a balanced diet isn't going to suddenly develop a cholesterol problem due to a daily egg. A single egg as part of a healthy diet isn't a bad option. It's nutritionally balanced and overall a much better choice than many of the alternatives.

Yes and my link also says this:-

If you are eating a balanced diet, you don't need to cut down on kidneys, eggs and prawns unless your GP or dietitian has advised you to do this.

My mums had high cholesterol which is why her doctor gave her a diet sheet outlining foods that should be eaten in moderation and eggs were listed on it. I merely wanted to make the OP aware in case they happen to have a high cholesterol level.

One egg has over 60% of the cholesterol that a person can eat in a day. It is all located in the yolk. All the protein is located in the white.

I wouldn't say they are healthy with that amount of cholesterol and it seems most doctors would agree. I will often eat the white portion alone since that contains no cholesterol or I will use one of the egg substitutes which eliminate the yolk. Some are very good and come close to matching the flavour without any cholesterol.

If you still want to eat the yolk then try eliminating half of it. I've done that before and most of the flavour is still there.

The egg is not your problem with that particular meal, it is the bread. Try going down to just one slice. Do the same with the rest of your meals and you will lose weight. It all has to do with cutting calories which is easily done by cutting down portion sizes.

You should eat a balanced diet, therefore eating the same thing every day for tea is not very good.

I don't know why people are saying the bread is bad. White processed bread is high gi and not really that good for you, but bread with seeds and grains is low gi and good for you.

The cholestrol and calories in eggs are contained within the yolk, so if you did insist on eating eggs every day, then for a few of the days maybe ditch the yolk? Though I know that is the best bit!

I've just got a book written by a doctor who's an expert on diabetes Dr C Clark - the book is called The New High Protein Diet and is about how to programme your body to lose fat naturally and keep it off, by eating a diet high in protein and low in carbohydrates. I am about to start it so I'll let you know how it goes. According to this Dr Clark, if you just follow a few rules in the book, you should be able to eat plenty of delicious food and never feel hungry.

I do agree with the earlier poster who said eating the same thing every day is probably not a particularly good thing. How about asking your doctor for a diet sheet or a referral to a nutrionist for advice?

Nope, eggs have all the nutrients you need in the right proportions, just like meat.

Birdie: Dr Clarks book is great but Protein Power by Dr Eades is better, also recommended is Barry Groves.

One egg has over 60% of the cholesterol that a person can eat in a day. It is all located in the yolk. All the protein is located in the white.

Incorrect - the yolk has just as much protein as the white as well as nearly all of the vitamins and minerals including vitamin D which very few foods contain.

Where does this 60% come from? There's no RDA for cholesterol in the UK because it's not deemed as necessary.

Cholesterol is not bad for us, if it was then it wouldn't be abundant in breast milk.

The yolk is 'fatty' but its a combination of 1/1/1 saturated/monounsaturated/polyunsaturated and the polyunsaturated in good quality eggs is 1/1 of omega 3:6

The whole thing about eggs being bad is a nonsense - not one study has found them to be harmful in any way, it's just a myth that stuck around too long.
