Although I do not watch SCD (wife does) here is my opinion on what we have seen today.

Remember it's only an opinion

Up until the last year or so, many of these so called "public voting" shows had clearly been the subject of much manipulation, as witnessed by the several fines imposed on several companies.

Was JS a dancer? Nope. Was he entertaining? Yep.

What do the public want from their TV..................entertainment!!

Now I am sure the purists will say "but it is a dancing competition" and they would be right. However, if you want the judging to be on purely dancing skills, then the show must be judged by professional judges only (i.e. no public vote).

It also seems to me that the whole point of the show has kind of lost it's focus, as we are now confronted with the Judging panel becoming "celebrities" in their own right.

It's not about the judges, it should be about;

a) The ability of the amateur to learn the art
b) The ability of the professional to teach the art

In the second case, there is no doubt that JS' partner has had the toughest job of the lot this year, so why should her efforts not be rewarded?

So should JS have stood down? Well you could take the view that he did the genlemanly thing given the possibility he could win, despite being the worst. You could take the view that he has let down the many, many people who spent their money voting for him until now.

Or you could take the view that since manipulation of the vote was no longer possible, he was asked to take one for the team, in order that the show could retain any pretence that it was a serious dance competition.

I'll leave it to you to decide.
