Richard Bacon claimed it on his 5 Live show last night. That said, I would expect that from him.

Surely the lines being open ALL WEEK as in previous years leaves the tally open to fanaticism?
Yes, but it also means that you can vote all week - so at the end of ITT for example.

Rather than only having a short time slot on a Saturday evening to vote in - most of the GBP have actual lives, and phoning-in 20 times may not be their idea of a good time.

And another bump, plus a quote from the BBC website:

"Correction 20 November 2008: An earlier version of this story wrongly stated that the money raised from calls to Strictly Come Dancing goes to Children in Need.
Since January 2008, the BBC no longer gives money raised by phone votes to charity. The money raised by Strictly Come Dancing phone votes pays for running the phone vote system itself. No money goes to Children in Need. Rules were changed after last year's phone votes scandals"

Yep, correction at the bottom of the main article:

Huh, I wonder if they're watching the forum...

So the cost of running the phone system is exactly the same as the money raised from calls each week? hmmm I think the beeb are telling porkies again, the phone system must be automated so the cost of running it must be very small, why not make the calls free.

It was said again at about 6.15am on fivelive - a lovely little chat where they mused about the sad loss of charity donations and how those who voted for John probably wouldn't want their money back because it went to CIN. I was dozing and it made me so mad I nearly got up to text them and tell them HOW WRONG THEY ARE but I managed to calm down

Well, if the BBC can't even get it straight, it's not suprising that forum members can't either.

Just try and keep this thread on the first page...

That SCD raised money for CiN. Which it doesn't of course.

No - the BBC PAY an outside company to run the phone lines and report the results to them.

<bump> Personally I think Tess should say, right after the "call now, it costs so-and-so" speech "no money is donated to charity". They may not be deliberately misleading viewers, but they certainly seem to be riding on the assumption wave to keep people voting. I'd love to see the difference in votes per hour between this season and last. We don't vote anything like as much now.

I think a lot of people still do believe the money is going to CIN. Particularly people who do not go on this forum for example. It's a disgrace in my opinion and I still don't really understand why the money or part of it can't go to CIN. The money from I'm a celeb still goes to charity.

I knew that, I kept telling people who said they were raising money for CIN by voting for JS so often. Now perhaps they'll believe me. In fact many of the people who voted for JS do know the money's not going to CIN or else surely they wouldn't be asking to have their money back.

Different channels. This is because of the BBC's new phone-in regulations, because they can't make people donate if they don't want to.

Louisa was interviewed yesterday about the hoohah and even mistakenly said it was a shame as he was raising money for charity.

But then again she was pounced upon by a film crew whilst she was meant to be promoting her panto (Peter Pan in Milton Keynes with Henry Winkler as Captain Hook...tickets still available!).

Oh and bump
