It's Still Just Entertainment

All the celebrities in Strictly are there to entertain us.
So are the judges, so is Brucie, etc. It's the BBC's main weekend entertainment show.

The spin-off Strictly Live on Tour will be in January and February 2009, on stage in 8 cities with a total of 46 shows. Seats for some shows are already sold out, at £50 or £60 a time.

Surprise, surprise, one of the celebrities signed up for the Tour is Cherie!

Who will she be dancing with? Good heavens - James!

There 's nothing wrong in any of that - good luck to all of them - but there's something amiss if the public takes everything at face value.

Strictly, the gossipy interviews, the daily BBC2 programme, the 2009 Tour - they're all about celebrities winning fans, doing their careers a bit of good, and the BBC increasing its audience share. Oh yes, and entertaining the masses!

As for John Sergeant dropping out, it's up to him. Hasn't he already been mentioned as the next presenter of Countdown (Channel 4)?

Of course you are right and don't forget those precious judges. We all know how "modestly" the BBC pays the stars of their top shows.
