I asssume next year, all the contestants will have to go through auditions to prove they are all of the same ability and lets not forget that one cannot be more popular with the public than than another. Lets put them all in the same costumes in case someone has a prettier dress than another - where will it end!!

Don't climb on your high horse then.

Ok you've given your opinion BUT you have not answered the OP's question. Why ask him on the show, if it would make a mockery if he won? They had no intention of him getting past the first few weeks.

John broke the golden rule - you're only allowed to be a weak dancer if you're young and handsome.

Will they all have to pass the Arlene sexy bottom and bicep test as well? To make sure she doesn't favour any particular contestants. Heck - that would reduce us to Madonna for the females.

John was invited on the show to be the fall guy. But the move backfired and the judges and all involved ended up with egg on their faces.

I do hope that next year we are offered a homogonous cast, instead of celebrities of different ages, builds and starting abilities and that the public vote is scrapped altogether.

That way, the show can truly be treated as a serious dance contest.

But as the rules currently stand, John and his supporters were playing fairly along with everybody else. He had every right to stay in the competition, and indeed win, if that's what the public wanted.

It's the voters who need to go through auditions.

John could have been marvalous at dancing surely; just because he's 64 etc doesn't mean he's going to be a crap dancer.

He was asked to compete; like all the other contestants - in a DANCE show.

What would make a mockery is if he won the DANCE show if he couldn't dance

An honest question- do you over react to things like this every day?”

Talking of overreacting - did you see how incensed poeple on here became when John stayed last weekend? Or does it only work one way?

That's one of the ironies here though.

There was a lot of smug reaction to the over-reaction. That doesn't only work one way either.

People should be able to react however they want, as long as it does not border on insulting other posters - isn't that the purpose of a forum, to air our views in a civilised manner?

If the pro John posts are put against the anti John posts, don't they just cancel each other out meaning everything is all set back to zero?

If that is the case then there should be no public vote. Only the judges should decides who wins!

Or the public should be voting on the Dance as opposed to the personality of the contestants when off the dance floor

Well that is the theory but it doesn't seem to work with some posters! Probably due to an intellectual shortfall if you know what I mean!

I can only assume it was to fill the programme's 'silly old duffer' role and we could all have a good laugh at him before eliminating him after the first dance.

But it didn't work like that. Krystina's skill and John's personality and their fun partnership made them such a great pleasure for me (and others) to watch. I genuinely enjoyed their dances so much and I spent my money on voting for them to be saved so I could have the pleasure of watching them the following week too.

John fulfilled his part, He trained, he performed, he did interviews, he remained charming and entertaining. Kystina was simply wonderful. I fulfilled my part by voting for my favourite contestents each week. But we got it wrong!

Apparently I was not supposed to enjoy them, not supposed to pick up the phone and vote, I was supposed to laugh at them.

He was not supposed to be popular. He was not supposed to be voted for. This broke the secret rules of the BBC's game!

Every trick in the book was used to try and stop me voting, but it didn't. Whatever the judges said I still continued to really enjoy John and Krystina's dances, still look forward to every Saturday and the pleasure their routines gave me. So the bullying started, the emotional blackmail started and John had to leave.

He wasn't 'the silly old duffer' role the BBC and judges had intended him to be, so he had to go.

I bet they regret asking him now.

I feel angry and actually quite ashamed to have fallen for believing that it was a free vote and anyone could win. I won't watch again - there's no point, it's not real.”

I agree with Melissa. Very good post.

How would that work then? If you dial the number to vote but are really voting for the personality rather than the dance, will your vote be discounted?

To make up the numbers, so the show wasn't all about being young and fit, because he is a nice, laid back sort of person and a bit different.

Oh this is so sad.

I think even those with an 'intellectual shortfall' can spot the irony in this post.
