The reason I say it shouldn't be on a Saturday evening is because, IMO, Saturday TV shouldn't be 'serious' TV, it should be about having fun, and having a laugh.”

I would agree about the choreographers, but 'dance teacher' is a bit insulting. Len is, of course, a teacher, has his own schools etc., but he is also a very qualified judge, and has judged at all major World Championships, International Champions etc in the UK and all over the world for many years.

It died because the beeb treated it with complete lack of respect, with their insincere presenters with their daft snide, tongue in cheek remarks that turned the show into a farce, and destroyed the image of ballroom dancing in the UK for good.

You're talking like SCD is a spin off of either of those and it's not. The previous BBC ballroom dancing TV show Come Dancing was a pure dance competition for pros (and amateurs?) to showcase ballroom dancing and had no audience participation and over the years virtually no audience at all.

The FILM Strictly Ballroom was about professional dancing, although one of the overall messages about the film was that winning is not everything, and that it was better to enjoy dancing 'flashy crowd pleasing steps' with an complete amateur than follow the rules to win a ballroom title.

The show Strictly Come Dancing has always been a popularity contest. Even more so before the dance off was introduced when the bottom two were tied and the public vote decided who left. The title is mostly just referencing two of the most recent and recognisable ballroom dancing shows/films and denotes that it's not just another Come Dancing but a less formal, more entertaining type of show. SCD is not just a dance contest and is not the same thing as either CD or SB.

Dont be silly - That exactly what it is

P.S. Strictly Ballroom was also a dancing competition (not just a film)

and name 'Strictly Come Dancng" is quite obviously a derivative of both

Exactly. It was run by an insider clique which became disconnected and insulated against feedback from customers. All who were not yes men were shown the door.

This clique is staging a comeback in the shape of four self-confessed comedians who after 6 years of continuous employment believe they now own SCD, and can instruct 10 million customers.

Off with their heads.

sorry but you are incorrect, the title has nothing to do with anything, it is purely what is done with the show. The show is a popularity contest and it has always been. Thats why the public have a vote.

Give some of them a bit of fame & it has gone to their heads.

It can't be a dancing competition as 99% of public have no idea how to judge dancing. In fact on tv you can't see the feet a lot of the time. You see the dance & decide if you like it or not - coupled with your feelings about the couple built up over the weeks of the show. I know what I think looks good & often my views about the dance do agree with the judges - sometimes not. The contrast has never been more stark as this year. The technically correct but charisma bypassed Rachel alongside John. I've not been a John fan but do love Jodie as her attitude has been splendid. She has put her heart into this but she doesn't reek of desperation. I suppose it is wrong to love her as she isn;t the best dancer.”

Exactly. In fact my partner and I always joke when one of the judges say something like "one of the crunchies (or whatever) was flat". We both look at each other and nod sagely and claim we both noticed that, before we end up laughing.

I agree - hasn't anyone ever seen "I'm a Celebrity"!?
An example of a misleading title if I ever saw one.

no it hasn't - and that's why you dont what you're talking about

it used to be soley a dance competition in it's previous life under the old TITLE & hence it was phased out

The public didn't use to vote in "Come Dancing"

and hence the title is everything
