If all the contestants who are still in it displayed the same joy for dance that he did, there wouldn't be any controversy. Instead of all the must-win, must-get-it-right, sense-of-entitlement attitudes that is sucking the life out of the show, try to have a good time!”

I agree with all of the above posts. It won't be the same without John - if he had been voted out it would have been fair enough. But I can understand why he felt he had to step down - so much fuss and bad feeling over what is meant to be a fun entertainment show about celebs learning to dance, not a serious dancing competition with dancing careers at stake!

Er, no? I used to make the tea when he did his bit. The beeb doesn't have convenient adverts like t'other side and it saved me cringing with embarrassment every time he attempted latin...

But why did you vote to hack of the judges? By next year they're not going to care less. And because of people like you, the rules will change. I did not for one minute find John Sargent entertaining but I wish he'd stayed because now he's been made a matyr and I have had to get up because the local radio phone in is all about him and people are now saying he could have won.
You've been very childish so thank you.

I've never watched an episode of this in my life, but judging from the clips of John on the news, then yes, it probably would have been the most entertaining bit.

Or because he'd rather be on a cruse in Panama...

No, he gets work like that lecture cruise all the time. He is in great demand as a speaker. He did speaking engagements whilst doing SCD. Had he not resigned yesterday and been kept in the competition, someone else would have done the cruise.

He said something quite funny a while back while on ITT. He said he had been giving a lecture after dinner to some City bods after which all they wanted to ask him about what SCD!

In an incredibly dull series, John was one of the very few highlights. Except for Jodie and Chrisitne's improvement and hopeful knocking out of the 4 favourites, what fun is there watching the others who could all dance in week one (Lisa excepted)?

John was THE entertainment, and thats why I voted for him. Not to annoy the judges. Not to annoy dancing purists. Because I enjoyed him, his personality, his partnership with the wonderful Kristina (who didn't have the benefit of having fans pre-series). I voted for John like I voted for Alesha, Ramps & Colin.

john and kristina, thanks for making saturday night fun, you came ,you danced and you left with dignity and an fair few million viewers who have enjoyed watching your skils or lack of them in the dance department will miss you,

John's dances were never entertaining. They were so poor that I felt sorry for him and worried about how he would feel when he saw the episode on TV.

They were entertaining and endearing. Both John and Kristina appeared to be enjoying themselves and the experience, and their enthusiasm seemed genuine. As did their smiles, which weren't just pasted on frozen grins.

To me, Jodie is the only other contestant who seems as "real."

I agree with you Heidi. I had to watch through my fingers. The only one I enjoyed was the first one.

I agree. It is now so serious it is no longer FUN. Perhaps Strictly's biggest mistake was to copy X Factor with the judges arguing and the criticism got nastier and nastier as the series went on. John has been humilated by the judges and now these comments by the pro-dancers and contestants. Can you imagine the atmosphere on a Friday at rehearsals!! No wonder John can no longer have fun with Kristina and have a laugh. John has nothing to gain from Strictly, he is well know, has a good reputation and is a journalist and after dinner speaker etc not a Z list celeb trying to revive a sinking career!! What a nasty vendictive lot the judges and some of the professional dancers are (especially James Jorden!). Personally I no longer care about Strictly or who wins!! The whole sage has spoilt the programme for me.

While I liked John and Christina, the show is about dancing, it is NOT a comedy show as such, admitted, the comedy on TV currently is rubbish and John was some light relief, he cannot dance.

I personally watch strictly to watch dancers, as I watch XFactor hopefully to watch singers.

Possibly its time to send Strictly to ITV2 and replace it with the chuckle brothers on ITV for the majority of viewers.

I didn't support John to tick the judges off, or because he was an old duffer.

From his first dance I kept on telling anyone who would listen how sweet he and Kristina were. The dance they danced to Mama Loves Mambo, it was so endearing. I even mailed people the link to the dance so they could watch. Not that they all saw what I saw, but I thought it was bloody lovely.

Last Saturday he Kristina's AS was again endearing. He never failed to make me smile every week, not laugh at him but smile and made me feel all warm inside.

As others have said, they all knew what they were signing up for. If they cannot win over the public as well as the judges then they are toast. No point signing up and then complaining about the rules when they don't go your way.

Gloat away naysayers. For once I am going to use a phrase I really don't like to see used. For me John will always be the true winner of this series. He knew it, the judges know it and the BBC know it.

JS brought the show ALOT of publicity and I know from personal experiences that people were tuning in just to watch him and they aren't even fans of the show.

Oh well, Strictly's loss...

About as edgy as a two year old child trying to attack you with a plastic spoon.

I love John's dances, he had more warmth than the rest of the contestasnts put together.

I judge my favourites on how many of their dances I download to keep on my hard drive. The one with most is Tom, I have all bar one of his dances, next is John Sargeant, his bring a smile to my face every time I watch them.

I thought that Kristina's choreography was possibly the most creative and that is the greatest loss.

John was entertaining to start with.

I defy you to find a dictionary definition of "entertaining" that John's dancing fits.

I agree that his "dragging Kristina along the floor" move may have been amusing to some, but I also think that some have let this colour their view of his subsequent performances, which were pedestrian.

Nope, he was entertaining for a while, but after that it got very repetive and I couldn't see any improvement in his dancing at all. He might have put the hours in, but I certainly didn't see any result of that on the dance-floor.

For me he was certainly not the star of the show and I used the time he was on to do other things.

Not at all! I'm not going to miss him murdering whichever dance he's been given to do in the slightest - should have been salsa this week, and I can't think of anything worse!

However, as someone else has already mentioned, I will miss having the opportunity to go grab a drink or nip to the loo while he does his marching!!!

And I'm sorry that he won't now find out the joke was on him the whole time - I'm sure he would have made the final but he would never have won. The case of Chris and Natasha in series 1 showed that people love a laugh, but talent wins out in the end!!
