Quite!

He was probably the only one with a personality!

Sorry, I don't think his dance routines were particularly "entertaining".
He was witty and extremely likeable..I have supported him in the threads for that reason..because I like the guy. Unlike many others, I didn't really look foward to watching him attempt to dance every week, I would prefer to see him using his wit and charm in his natural environment.

That's a ludicrous thing to say.

They all have personalities and all of the ones who are left are better dancers as well. As I usually record the show I use my Sky plus to fast forward through the bits intended to demonstrate personality - the crying, the laughing, the "mistakes", the pointless visits to primary schools, and just watch the dances themselves followed by the judges' comments and the marks. I enjoy the Sunday show with the professional dances etc.

Believe it or not, you don't need to know that someone fell over last week and had to be rushed to hospital in order to appreciate how well they can do the tango. You don't have to have seen them crying when their mum pays a surprise visit to realise they are warm human beings who get nervous and excited like everyone else. And the fact that someone twisted their ankle should not be a factor in making you vote for that person - too much sympathy voting has been done in the past and it's a well known ploy adopted by certain contestants.

Not forgetting the bits with Tess in: totally "whizzable"

I note that on the corporate website, Tess is down as "Key Talent" (along with Bruce).

Both words are misnomers, in her case...

So you would prefer it if the celebs came on, didn't take the dancing too seriously but concentrated on the one liners etc, being a 'cheeky chappy' a la Phill Tufnell et al and then basically stumble round the dance floor a la John on a Saturday night?

That would be your idea of entertainment?

John's dancing was pathetic, painful to watch and I hated his smug little 'jokes'.

I have read that Phil Tufnell is in fact a good dancer!

I enjoyed watching John every week and found him very entertaining; more than that, he improved tremendously. His last dance with Kristina tonight was his best yet.

Absolutely no way was he entertaining, clever yes! Smug yes, milking the situation oh yes. Clever man is John, but a dancer and entertainer? No Way!

I'd agree, thought it was technically much improved from the first week, and actually showed that for a man in his 60's he's a good ballroom dancer.

Had a tear in my eye, it was lovely

Strictly has lost its 'X factor' star of this series. John had personality, charm and grace. He was a joy and brightened up Saturday nights for millions.
He brought in many new viewers to a long in the tooth series, who tuned in to have a laugh at him and were then totally charmed and won over.
He was a real gentleman.
Thats it for Strictly for me. No fun anymore.
I know the BBC are worried about their ratings now and their phone votes. I expect Simon Cowell is delighted!

I just wish some of the others could find a more interesting reason to plead for votes rather than "I'm having such a good time, I don't want it to end." However smug/irritating/incompetent people found John (which I didn't - I loved his tongue-in-cheek comments) he did at least show some originality.

anyone else think the show has lost its biggest star this year with john's exit? (i'm sure there are plenty who don't think that, but anyone else agree that he was actually the one act that was worth watching?)”
