A two-way final would be worse than a three-way with John in it. By quitting John has most likely, uninitentionally, spoilt the series finale IMO.

But some were demanding he quit.

As the saying goes: Be careful what you wish for, lest it come true".

I think there are extreme views on both sides of the argument (I'm on neither) and I would imagine that those demanding that John quit would be in the minority of the people wanting him out. Or at least I hope so.

They did it this series. Misty Mae Traynor broke her ankle, so they had a bye for the bottom placed dancer...he still went the following week, but the numbers remained how they should.

I find it a damp squib anyway. 35 minutes of filler just to boost BBC1's ratings, then the all important dance off cramed into the final 10 minutes.

They could reinstate Cherie and James, perhaps?

They could announce a half way rundown of the places on the Sunday show with these carrying over until the following week when there would be an elimination.

SCD is somewhat cursed with the competition not following its natural course. Personally I think they should have an extra couple or engineer it so that maybe there would be a double elimination in the week prior to the final thus leaving some slack if there was a casualty along the way.

You'd think they would have figured out a way of handling this kind of situation better by now...it's not like it's the first time.

At least this would be a good filler show especially just before the final as this would give the final 3 time to really polish their performances which would make things more interesting still.

All the rest of the contenders could do a dance they really wanted to or a favourite.

See now that must be where all the difference of opinion is coming from. I (and probably quite a few other people) think that sounds brilliant - I watch Strictly for the dancing. So having however many more weeks of graceful and consequently for me, entertaining dancing sound really good.

I'm not entirely sure why, if the only reason you watch the show is for one couple and you find the prospect of just watching dancing boring, why you'd even watch the show at all? Surely one couple couldn't make you waste 60minutes of your Saturday night?

The Beeb should seriously reconsider their format for the show IMO if we end up with a two-way final for the third year running.

As the Beeb are clearly so utterly unimaginative that they are set on always knocking someone out each week, the answer lies in carrying an extra dancer in until the semi-final just in case someone drops out, and then knocking TWO out if not, thus always ensuring a three person final.

Just because that's something that's obvious to a blind man, it doesn't mean that those in charge at the BBC are capable of such logic.

i really wish they'd do this, but i doubt it. i think it worked well in the US show.

They could invite Kelly back - she could dance with Anton!

Last year the judges messed with the leaderboard to rig the final. They wanted an Alesha win, and the only threat was Gethin.

Well, common sense and the BBC don't always go well together.

But i don't know, given the situation which is worse, a weekend with no-one going (and thus making the sunday show pointless), and a two person final.

Sadly it looks like a two person final is inevitable. I really think John made the wrong decision.

They could always have all the available contestants who had been knocked out back to do their favourite dance (or one they never got the chance to do and really wanted to try) on the week before finals. This would give the last 3 couples extra practice and would be a good reprise on the series.
