Synching iTouch with a new PC
Cazoo
20-11-2008
Hi

I've just got a new laptop and downloaded iTunes and am trying to synch my iTouch. I have previously synched with four other computers but know you can synch with five, so this shouldn't be an isse.

iTunes has asked me for authorisation, which I've given, but has only downloaded some albums to my PC and not others, quite randomly. It now refuses to synch any further.

Also, I have copied some CDs into iTunes but they have not been picked up by my iPod during synch.

Can anyone suggest a reason/solution?

Hi. From my iTouch. Bascially it asked me 'do you want to transfer your purchased tracks?' and that's what it's done, tranferred only the tracks on my iTouch that I bought via iTunes. It hasn't downloaded any albums that were originally ripped from CDs.

Is there any way to get the albums I just ripped from CDs and saved in iTunes to upload to my iTouch? Also, can I get ripped CDs to download from my iTouch?

OK, ignore me. I've just discovered this is something Apple does on purpose and that I have to take several convoluted steps to get round it. Thanks Apple.

yeah, it only transfers the music you bought on your ipod (the point being to keep your library accurate). as it seems you have discovered, you have move your music library over to your new computer.

Thanks all, but I have one extra question. I ripped some CDs to my new iTunes library on my new computer last night, but they did not upload to my iPod when I synced.

Can anyone tell me why or what I have to do to get these new ones to upload? Please don't tell me I have to erase everything on my iPod and start again?

plug your ipod in, then click on it in iTunes and then go to the music tab and make sure that all music and playlists ratio button is clicked and click sync again

Connect the told computer to the new one and copy all the tracks over. Far quicker and easier. You could even just copy the entire library over as well and have all your playlists etc.
