If there has to be a dance-off....

...why not make it a proper dance-off? Rather than merely repeating the choreographed dances from the main show, why not play, say, some waltz music and have both couples waltzing around the floor at the same time. Given that the contestants are supposed to have learned some technique, it would be much more interesting as a decider, and would actually give the judges something to talk about.

There you go, that's my solution to save the SCD format.

I'd quite like that idea. You could really see the difference last year. In the same episode, Alesha forgot 70% of her paso and managed to completely make it up, whereas Matt forgot his waltz (?)/AS (?) and had to stop.

The problem I can see is if the two were doing different dances. Someone might have done the waltz this week, and the other couple hasn't done it since week 1.

I might just wait until the format needs saving before offering my suggestions as to how to save it.

Controversial.

Well given the extent to which Arlene et al got their collective knickers in a twist over recent weeks, I think it's fairly clear that the format which they argued for (the dance off) isn't actually working very well. Just count the number of times Len has whined about it.

Honestly you people can't have it both ways - if you want it to be a "daaaaance competition" then why not adopt the structure of actual ballroom dance competitions, like the ones at Blackpool that people are always going on about.

If not then just carry on discussing Sergeant...

They couldn't - because the couples don't actually learn a dance.
They learn a routine based around a dance style.

Is that contraversial enough
