If this is brought back next year will any celebs go on ? The only ones who might must no they will be good at dancing and what will be the point of that. I think the pros and judges take this way to seriously. Yes I know you have to work hard but it should have some enjoyment. Why should a celeb be screamed at or kill themselves when they just can't do a certain dance. I think all the fun has gone. Maybe they should use real dancers and have no public vote seeing as this seems to be what the judges and pros want

Sod the dancing, if they want a showcase for their 'personality', they'll be queuing up for it after this year.

Yup.

Why would any C-rate celeb want to have prime time TV exposure every Saturday night when it might mean being told you can't dance very well?

I can think of several thousands reasons why "celebs" will still be queuing up to do the show:

certainly John's departure has made the remaining celebs look like petty wannabes with no sense of the absurdity of the "competition" they're in . A lot of them see it as make or break for their careers and therefore they're too emotionally invested. But then again I suppose that's what makes it fun to watch.
James has come out looking a Grade A @rse imho .

Lisa was quiet on Capital this morning .

They want to raise their profile its the only reason ANY of them do it,they don't have a burning desire to learn to dance they want people to know who they are...thats it

Front page headlines, items on the news, hundreds of column inches - they'll be breaking the door down to appear

I think learning to dance is why Tom and Lisa are doing it, it's also the reason Alesha took part last year.

Some will take part to boost their profile, but I'm sure they are easier ways than Strictly. Also I can't think of many celebs who have had a major career boost from Strictly.

I like Alesha a lot and I'm sure she did partially do it to learn to dance but I wouldn't dismiss the objective of raising her profile being part of the equation .Similarly yes there is a love of the dance from Tom but he is an actor wanting to prove his versatility to lead to the next job...profile raising. I'm a big fan of Lisa but can see that she wants to be seen as more than Clooneys ex girlfriend and lead to perhaps primetime presenting jobs.

I'm not criticising them for it.

Exactly ~ if they had really "always wanted to do this" then what was stopping them going along to their local dance class, like anyone else who wants to dance has to do.

"I've ALWAYS wanted to learn to dance......on prime-time tv for £50k"

I'm not saying that they don't enjoy it once they get into it, but it's not the "learn to dance" thats the major pulling factor, its the TV exposure & the fee.

As I said on another thread, there was nothing to stop these people going out to learn to dance away from TV & for no fee. But for some reason the contestants all wait until they get asked on the show to reveal their lifetime ambition to learn to foxtrot.....

So, they're unable to book private dance lessons then?

All take part to boost their profile - some more successfully then others, but it's why they're there.

1) Possibly of raising profile or revitalising dead or dying career.
2) You lose weight and tone up your body.
3) You get to wear nice outfits (even the girls).
4) Not as dangerous as Dancing on Ice.
5) You don't have to eat anything that is living or live with your competitors 24 hours a day.

I could do that.

I can see the bottom of the barrel 'I think I'm a celeb get me on it' breaking down the door but the reasonable level headed ones just wanting to do it for fun will have second thoughts.

So expect Jodie Marsh, Callum Best, Kerry Katona etc at the front of the queue?

No one's doing it just for fun, they are all wanting the exposure it brings about.

Austin - left bank needs career boost
Jodie - makes up ground lost due to drugs story
Lisa - only known as George's ex before, now gets national exposure
Christine - unknown to those who don't watch The One Show no longer
Tom - actor, just left steady employment, now much higher profile and his name's out there.
Rachel - already been honest enough to admit its to boost her career

They get the career boost they want, learn to dance as a bonus, plus its a damm sight more dignify surrounding then the jungle or being locked in a house, vidalia's post said it all.

Very, very few will do it just for fun or just because they want to learn to dance, you want to learn to dance you book some lessons, you don't go on tv in front of 10 million people.

And this goes for every series apart perhaps from series 1 when it was a totally untried concept and no one knew if it would make or break them

I just hope we don't get someone next year who plays it for a laugh in the hope they might stay as long as JS and get as much exposure out of it.

I keep reading comments like this but rarely is there any evidence offered. Certainly no evidence that this year's celebs are measurably different than any other.

It sounds phoney and unearned. Not to mention the fact I don't see any justification for the assumption that John did not have equally 'questionable' motives for doing the show...albeit maybe different ones from some of the others.

John's survival and now his departure has highlighted imo the grim desperation of some of the celebs and pros to stay on the show.

John's expected role on this series was " old fool for everyone to laugh at in the first couple of weeks and then vote off " . However he and Kristina were far cleverer and her choreography never allowed him to look foolish ( Karen Lillia Flavia take note ...) So from being tolerated as a no hoper at the start he soon became feared and loathed as someone who was playing the system to his own advantage and was far more popular than most of the conventional desperate "tryers" who seek some sort of redemption in staying on the telly. I'm talking Helen Cherie James mainly but i think Rachel Lisa possibly Christine are also pinning too much on this silly sequined game show.
