Do you mind me asking what you found? I have the same problem, and the suggestions I've found on Google have been useless so far:

1) move litter tray closer and closer to the door. Tried it - didn't achieve anything;

2) put litter tray outside. Done it - he doesn't so much as look at it, and only uses it when I bring it (the tray) in at night;

3) remove litter tray completely. Done that too. He did a fragrant number 2 on the floor where the tray used to be;

4) make tray look less appealing by filling it with mud, leaves etc. I now have mud and dead leaves on the floor.

5) catch him "in the act" and throw him outside. I'm not fast enough for the little bugger ... I end up being his toilet.

It's a fantastic kitten, and I love him to pieces, but I am at the end of my tether. Should I resign myself to the fact that some cats just don't "do" outside (outside being a spacious back garden, with trees and bushes for privacy etc.)???

Any help from other posters much appreciated too.

I would like to know this answer too!! My cat has done bits and pieces outside but then I left the tray for nightime, not wanting her to go outside to do it and now we are fully back to using the tray. It is by the catflap but she will come in to go!!! I did speak to someone in the pet section of my garden centre and she said that her cat always uses a tray in the winter because they like to cover poo and wee with nice, fresh dry soil, not soggy soil!!! I then decided that maybe I am resigned to using the tray during the winter and try again in the spring when the mud has maybe dried up a bit.

I remember we had this problem with our male kitten years ago - his sister caught on immediately that she had to go outside but not him...mm..! We moved the tray nearer and nearer the door, and eventually put it right outside the catflap, in a flowerbed, and eventually he got the message. We made a point of showing it to him every day, in its slightly new position, and scratching his foot in it.

Unfortunately he has just had to spend 8 weeks in a puppy cage after tearing a ligament in his back leg and I fear we may be in the for the same again.
