Very Poorly Cat
Tizzy

Hello,

I'm pretty devastated by a situation that has blown up out of nowhere. My twelve year old cat began vomiting last weekend and also had diarrhoea. I took her to the vet on Tuesday and she could feel a lump in my cat's intestine. Today she had scans to confirm it was there and on Monday she will go in for surgery to see if it can be removed. I've been told if it can't be removed or if there is a much worse situation in there then I'll have to say goodbye to my cat while she's under anaesthetic. I can't believe that this has all happened so quickly and I'm so not ready to lose her. Meanwhile she has been put on ID and AD special diet foods and this has eliminated the vomiting, etc.

Has anyone else had this situation? Are these operations successful? I know I must let her have the surgery as to leave it would mean a gradual deterioration and her feeling dreadful. But I feel so terrible about the whole thing.

I can't offer any advice I'm afraid as I've not experiences it myself but I will have my fingers crossed that they can save her........ and if not then you have to take comfort from the fact you are doing the kind thing!!

I hope it all goes in your favour and in the mean time spoil her rotten!!

Hi there Tizzy. I am not sure if my story will help but I will give it a go. My Percy (14yrs old) went for routine jabs in jan, although had been ill over Christmas with vomiting. Anyway vet found a lump in tummy area. Wasn't sure what it was so had an exploritry op the next day. Turned out he had lymphoma, 1 large lump and 3 smaller lumps. It was too close to his intestines to operate. Took a biopsy to find out for certain. We took the decision to have chemo, which he took to really, really well. He had to eat special diet intestional food too. 1 chemo session every week for 8 weeks, then 1 every two weeks etc. He definitely got into remission for 9 months, but unfortunately during treatment the chemo made worse his kidneys and in the end he was put to sleep 9 weeks ago due to kidney failure, not cancer. He actually lived a lovely 9 months which the vet said was more like 5 years to him in cat life. It is quite a treatable cancer. I do so hope that your cat is ok though and that whatever the lump is can be sorted out. I do fully understand what you are feeling as in Jan I felt exactly the same. Keep us posted.

One of the first signs of a cat dyeing is when they start to lay in their cat litter tray - it means their giving up hope.

if they fall asleep in their litter tray - it's bad news.

our cat died in March this year of cat aids, before he died he started to sleep in the litter tray.

Tizzy ((((hugs))))

I lost one of my cats at the weekend - he just keeled over and that was it - he was 11 years old and had moved 2 doors along the road to live with an elderly neighbour when we got our puppy - he turned up here the other day for the first time in ages and we had a good cuddle - I think he knew he was gonna leave us - he was not unwell and eating normally - we called vet and they think it was probably some sort of stroke but he did not seem to suffer in any way - he was here one minute gone the next. His mum is still going strong - she has also 'left home' and is living a life of luxury and being totally spoilt - she is 17 years old and only has 3 legs - losing a pet is hard and I've been through it several times - focus on the fun times

Oh Tizzy. This has really upset me hun

I was just about to head off home and then I remembered today was the day she was going in for her op so I thought I would check.

Honestly your post gave me cold shudders!!

I cannot say anything other than I am sorry to hear she didn't make it. But please, please, please try and take some comfort in the fact she lived a long and happy life with you and would have died knowing she was loved and will be greatly missed.

Once again I am sorry hun, and I send you a huge cyber hug!!!

Tizzy - I really feel for you, it's 3 weeks since we lost George and the devestation is still there, the comfort we found was in knowing that he wasn't suffering anymore and that we'd given him the best possible life that he could have just like you gave your little girl.
